Stove Top Espresso Cappuchino Maker

edited September 2013 in Espresso Machines
I have been researching and trying to locate the best option for coffee that works well on the stove top.. I have found Moka, basic camping units and French press but really want some good coffee, and not the watery junk you get from a French press.

Anyway I would like to get feedback from anyone who has tried this item.  http://www.handsonhemp.com.au/friendly-italian-stove-coffee-maker-p-127.html

Please let me know your good or bad inputs on this thing and any thoughts you might have.  It looks interesting but do not know anything about those types of machines.  If there is a better one please let me know.  I am really looking that makes just one or two cups quick does not require much cleanup and tastes really good.

I have recently learned how to go from coffee cherries to roasted cofee beans.  You can either use a popcorn popper oven or fry pan to roast your own small batches at a time. Then grind it up, pop it into a stop top machine for your own soup to nuts cup of hand made coffee. I figure with a setup like this and a few coffee plants I will be in pretty self sufficient in the coffee department.

Love to hear your feedback as I am anxious to pull the trigger on one of these but do not want to drop the money on one if they are not worthwhile.

  • stove top espresso... many variations, but, with he right coffee/grind they make lovely espresso ;) L
  • But you'll need a good grinder for espresso or even moka pot!  The better ones are the hario and porlex hand grinders (be sure it will do espresso) and then the price heads north from there. All the best.... I saw this on eBay and it looked like fun: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stove-Top-Authentic-Italian-Espresso-Cappuccino-Coffee-Maker-Artistic-Machine-/121179420881?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item1c36db38d1&_uhb=1
  • Often thought if I had a lazy grand I'd spoil myself with an 'Otto'.... I'm afraid once I saw one 'in the flesh' it was lust at first sight.... Those lines, so curvy, so glossy and shiny........ http://www.ottoespresso.com/
  • None of the stove tops really make espresso afaik. Doesn't make it bad coffee, but it may not be to your taste.  It is extracted at quite low pressure  and usually a bit hotter than ideal. I have a little two cup moka pot and it makes foul coffee, poor design where heat conductivity ensures the first drops of extracted coffee get burnt. The classic bialetti design is far better at isolating the extracted coffee from the  heat. The one you linked LOOKS OK, but only one way to tell for sure.

looks like a fair bit of photoshopping has been used to trick up the colour of those extractions in the visuals !
  • A combination of a Bacchi Stovetop and a Kyocera or Porlex hand grinder would be worth considering. There is a Design Study of the Bacchi on the Orphan Espresso web site http://www.orphanespresso.com/Bacchi-Design-Study_ep_618-1.html Great little stovetop which can be used on gas or electric and produces very good espresso. It uses steam pressure to drive a piston so you actually produce the espresso under pressure. Good for camping as well when used on a gas burner. They are available in Australia from Sorrentina. It is not the cheapest stovetop but I think if you want the best espresso available from a stovetop it is very hard to beat

I remember seeing a video of this and thinking it looked fantastic!
  • Just came today.  Very very portable unit.  No clean up at all.  Just remove and dump the filter.  That is it.  Coffee tastes really good.  Have tried several different blends and even decaf.  For the low cost, it is really impressive.  Not as shiny and glamorous as the other unit in this thread but also not near the cost. Some photos coffee5.jpg coffee7.jpg  They sent both the double and single coffee holder which was nice coffee6.jpg  Really small as you can see with my big cup coffee4.jpg coffee3.jpg coffee2.jpg All and all I would say a good deal.  Not as stunning looking as the other units, but a lot lower costs.  Plus the taste is really good.  I would say a worthwhile buy.  Takes about 1 minute from start to finish and makes one double shot at a time.  If you want more just fill it up again, and 1 minute later....
  • I like Bialetti stovetop, but i think it can makes good coffee (not espresso or cappuccino), it suits for domestic use, we can make 2,3,4,6,9,10... cups of coffee in several minutes then enjoying with friends everytime and everywhere. In order to make good coffee, you should use good coffee beans and grinder.

This post reads like an infomercial with all due respect.  Given the fact that I removed a link from your post to a commercial coffee equipment sales site OS perhaps you'd be so kind as to read the rules of the forum before your next post.  http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/?page=page4385
  • its interesting to me at least that there are no photos of the resulting coffee that this little beastie purportedly produces - Im more interested in whats in the cup than the packaging !
