Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Sunbeam EM0480 Grinder

quick question on the above grinder

i finally bought one last night to my match now fixed EM6900 machine.

im having some trouble getting the grind fine enough. i have the top burr and the adjustment ring seated properly but finding even on setting 0 im not getting a fine enough grind to get a good extration time. also when the grind comes out its very staticky and takes a long time to fill up the basket (doesnt seem to be much coffee grind volume produced)

as i say im 100% sure everything is seated ok, but jsut cant get it to grind around the 10 mark  as the manual says. the beans i am experimenting with on the grinder  are about 4 weeks old, perhaps this also has an effect ???

if anyone has had similar trouble, or know what i may be doing wrong would be appreciative of any tips.

i thought the grinder would work straight out of the box, and after having so many problems with my 6900 i jsut throw my hands up in the air with frustration ::) ::) ::)

    I can't speak from personal experience, however I have a mate who bought one of the Sunbeam Grinders and he is having the same trouble....can't get the grind fine enough. This suprised me, as these were the grinders used on the Sunbeam Appreciation Course.....so if you find the solution, please advise so I can enlighten my mate.

    G'day Matt, There are mods you can do to this grinder to make it grind finer, but it would probably void your warranty. I'd be taking it back to Sunbeam for a replacement, their customer service is apparently very good. All the best.

    Hey Matt, Sometimes the 'zero' point for the grinding burrs (which is where the burrs are almost touching) is not quite set properly. As mentioned above, it's fairly easy to rectify this problem but if you're not too confident with taking the machinery apart and don't want to void your warranty, I'd just either get it replaced or explain your problem to Sunbeam and get them to reset the 'zero' point a bit finer.     mmmmmaybe it is the beans? 4 weeks is a long time.. i find the older my beans get the finer i have to go but ..0 is pretty intence yeah take it back adn see if the replacment does better (also get new beans) ^^

    Hey Ben, and/or Lovey, I wonder if you can give me an idea of how to reset the zero point for the burrs on the EMO480? I've got the opposite problem: the grind is way too fine. I'm getting it near right (for espresso) if I turn the clicker past the coursest setting. But this is a bit random, so I'd like to have a go at calibrating it right. I've got someone to bring it up to me in Singapore, so I can't take it back! And I won't be back in Oz for over 3 months. Many thanks, if you can help. Michael

    send it back, I know at least a dozen people with the same problem, they should replace or fix it
