After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Krups? Opinions please

Hi all,

I'd like to know the current opinion on Krups machines.

Firstly, if you've used one or are currently using one is it good?

Secondly, what's the current perception of Krups in the marketplace? Is it a reputable brand? Are they percieved as reliable?

    I have a Krups Orchestro Dialog and love it.   Fast becoming a coffee/latte lover. The automatic frothing is fantastic for your latte's

    from what I have read over the years, Krups is considered a pretty crappy brand - that's why they were nicknamed Kraps! Maybe they've improved over the years? who knows? DoubleR

    Many say that they top of the line Krups are made by SAECO. Whether that changes anything, i dont know.  But i know that my machine grinds and froths as good as (if not better) any over the counter fresh coffee. And its way ahead of the instant coffee i would occassionally have. I am not a coffee connesiour but at least im on the way! Unless you fall into the category of "i have spent thousands on coffee machines and have fine tuned my taste and know exactly what i want" i think you will be very happy with a krups. I went from instant coffee to a $1800 machine, so it was a huge step and im not regretting it at all.

    When you buying coffee machine ask question where I can buy spare parts??are there ane service backup? Once a year you need to change group seal ,if you can get it machine is useless. For this reasen I would be bit worried Technican

    we have a Krups Orchestro and it is the worst thing we ever bought. It is 2 years old and we have had nothing but trouble with it for a year. Actually after about 6 months we noticed the frothing getting worse. I wish we had taken it in straight away to get fixed as it would have been replaced. We have an extended warranty on it so took it into the only authorized repairer here (who are no help). They actually charged us $60.00 and said nothing is wrong with it. It is the design of the machine and that they had 3 in with the same problem. A week later it went back and the nozzle was replaced, another $50.00 (What's the point with extended warranty). I was so angry I wrote to krups and got no reply. So after another few months of flat headed cappo's I wrote to krups again. This time I got a reply. The person there has been very helpful but the problem is being passed from one place to another. So as I said before, one year on we still have a machine that will not froth. It makes a nice coffe but I want a cappucino. I could make a better throth blowing throgh a straw.

    With my Orchestro Dialog, i have had some issues with the frother too! But i now rinse the frother immediately after every use with hot water!  whilst this is happening, i rotate the dial to ensure a good clean! Milk scum build up will ruin the frothing process (as you have described) At worst you should pull apart the plastic part of the frother (its easy to remove) and run some very hot water through it. Im confident that all automatic frothers would suffer the same problem if they were not cleaned soon after use. FYI. the contact number for KRUPS Australia is 9748 7944. I have found them very helpful, and they can also email you a frothing guide to get the most out of the automatic frother!

    thanks for that tip but nothing helps our machine. We have a lemon. The frother was replaced, made one coffee, the froth was ok but after that it went downhill again. We soak the frother part once a week and every time we use it we run water through it to help "pump" out the milk. Friends of ours bought a DeLonghi and it does a beautiful job. Like a going to a cafe. If I had my time over I would buy a Delonghi. So today instead of making a nice cappo at home we went out to a coffee shop and bought one.

    Hi Sheepy. I also have a Krups Orchestro and, as you'll see from the post I'm about to make, I also have problems. But milk frothing certainly isn't one of them. It has one of the best frothers going (IMHO). I've temporarily reverted back to my old manual espresso machine while the Orchestro's incapacitated, but it's hopeless at steaming and the Orchestro can still do it - so I have both machines on the table. My wife is not pleased. The steam generator is one of the easier parts to get to and I'm sure it just needs the tube cleaned out. Or, easier still, have you tried pricking out the hole in the nozzle with a pin? I hope it works for you. If you, or anyone else, have any idea how to perform more serious maintenance on an Orchestro, please look for my next post. *8^)

    Hi DavidSc We have put our machine in again to get fixed. Third time in less than 12 months. It will be at least 3 weeks before we hear anything. But this time we said we are not paying for repairs when we have an extended warranty. If we have a lemon all the authorized repairer has to do is say and the insurance company said they will replace it. But for some reason the repairer has a bee in his bonnet and doesn't want to. So the saga continues. LOL

    Krups were one of the first producers to take the domestic scene seriously, and they deserve credit for that. But in order to survive in a competitive market place it is necessary to continuosly innovate, and this is where I feel Krups comes up short. I do not believe that their machines represent value for money, as there are plenty others out there that do a much better job. The Rancillio Ms Silvia, for instance, or the Gaggia Classic, are two domestic coffee machines designed and construced around commercial components. I suggest that any potential purchasers do their homework first, and look to sites like coffeegeek.com for comprehensive reviews on all domestic (and commercial) machines Drink well, ACG

    Hi I wouldn't buy any aluminium boiler machines.Most of  the machines made in China are cheap but also are crap. If you can spend a bit more get a brass boiler machine..maybe an Ranciliio Sylvia or similar. If you ever have a chance to see what is in a aluminium boiler after one year i am shure you will never drink another coffee from this machines.I am using an 20 years old clasic...perfect coffee,perfect crema..doesn't even has a name..has been put togheter by some technician.     I have a Krups espresso machine that is 4 years old. Unfortunately we have now replaced the transformer 4 times. When I contacted Group Seb and complained they told me that the transformer was a CONSUMABLE item and would not be replaced. I thought that coffee might be a consumable item, not transformers. I would not recommend a Krups machine to anybody. Kraps.
