After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

E61 HX temperature variables.

If i turn on an E61 HX machine for a long time will the thermosyphon eventually heat the grouphead hotter than brewing temperature and if so, how does the cooling flush work to adjust grouphead temperature.

And after pulling a shot, how many minutes are counted as idle and if i pull shots immediately after a shot will the temperature rise/decrease.

While idle would the temperature rise again.

And if i keep pulling shot after shot will the temperature be the same, decreased or increased?

    Welcome Ray.  No blasting here.  It's a very good question/s but I fear the answer is the same as for the question 'how long is a piece of string'? Now you and I know that's not helpful but the only way you'll know for sure is to use calibrating gauges such as scace2 and what-nots.  Every machine is different and that gear is not cheap.  Neither is the problem easy go fix....you restrict one part of the HX and other parts suffer.  The cheapest way to gauge these things is yo use your intuition and your taste buds.  If the water coming from the group is spitting and boiling after a 20second flush, keep flushing.  If the coffee tastes burned and similar irrespective of blend, keep flushing.  If your having issues detecting a fault, don't go looking for one. What's the machine, how old is it and where did you get it from mate?

  • On the Viebiemme Domobar HX junior This machine has a small 1.6 lt boiler Just remember that it has 2 systems working together and using one can affect the other in temperature The Boiler only supply's steam to the wand and shares it's heat with the Heat Exchanger ( usually a coil of copper pipe ) fitted inside the boiler and the group head via a connection bridge The HX system uses fresh water direct from the tank but before it gets to the head it passes through the HX coils inside the boiler The cooling flush is primarily used to remove any super hot water inside the HX coil Just remember that hot water will burn coffee and cool water will be sour Recovery of the system will be dependent on if the boiler has had a fill of fresh water but it won't be any more than a minute Generally it's under 30 seconds but it's no deferent then the on off cycle you hear The heat up and recovery speed is dependent on the element fitted KK

    These are a good machine!  If you're unsure of its heritage it may be best to have the machine serviced and ask the tech to 'set it up' for you.  They are a premium machine very reliable!
