After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Shower Screens cut by fricking lasers! IMS Competition Shower Screens

So... Came upon this video on YouTube:

[embed=425,349]

And decided these would be a good match for the awesome VSTs!  Searched sponsor sites to no avail then found them for $27.50 with $1.20 postage to Brisbane at  http://dolo.com.au/products/ims-competition-shower-screen-78dc3c4b-89da-4a6c-b700-1a6864ac5679

I'll report back with my findings!  (Passage edited to keep traffic on our site and rightly so!!)

Is anyone using this and have I just blown more than the price of a bag of Roasters Choice from MyCuppa on a fad??

The VSTs are unstoppable in they're awesomeness.  I'm hoping this is easier to keep clean!!

  • Espresso Parts in the US are charging $100+ for their Precision Espresso Machine Group Screen so this is a bargain in comparison! :)  They don't do a E61 though.  Is it compatible with your machine?  I thought E61 group heads varied between manufacturer. Anyway, good luck and report back your findings.
  • Possibly... I'll let you know.  If its too good to be true....
  • Rest assured Brett - they are the real deal IMO (although I cannot vouch for those items you purchased, but do use similar concept screens sourced from another supplier). Some of the cafes have been using them for 8 months now and still going strong - whereas the standard SS's were being replaced after about 6 - 8 weeks (with about half that period where the screen was operating below standard). Particularly useful if like me you are a member of the over-dosing, gorilla-tightened, pump-squealing, super-shot fancier's club !.

Nothing like that squeel in the morning. I always cringe, thinking I'm going to break something, but then it's always worth while. I'll be keen to hear how these screens go, BrettH (and if it doesn't fit your machine, send it my way :P ).

Just like me without the squeal on the lever  KK
  • the even spread of the water looks amazing, paired with the VST baskets you are sure to be on a winner Brett. The guys at DOLO are pretty good to deal with and have a few great products. Bought all my nuovapoint cups through them, fantastic cups. Keep us posted on how it all performs, video etc, HHMMM Can I get these for the slayer ?
  • Thanks guys!  I'm not an up-doser as I find that the VSTs are less forgiving of changes in dose.  My first coffee of the day is a French press at work.... I envy early morning espresso drinkers.  If the pump squealed in my kitchen in the wee-hours of the morning, I would soon follow  :pan
  • You just need to get the kids used to the noise Brett. Which of course means multiple shots before work ( hopefully not shots from the wife though - lock that gun safe)
  • I'm also keen to see how these perform. Is your machine an E61 Brett?
  • Just ordered one to use on my giotto looks impressive, will report back with my findings too!
  • Oh Brett, I've been running one of these for 12 months ;)

We are awaiting your review Jonty Kk
  • Its super easy to clean as it does not allow build up to occur. It is one continuous mesh across the shower so it makes it easy to brush with no catch points. Cant say much more guys - its a shower screen but yes I would never go back!!

    Yes mate!

Good to know mate.  How's the fit.... As mentioned above not all e61s are the same.
  • I had them in my Mistral - they were amazebeams!

According to my supplier they fit all E61... Happy as pig in mud for the last 12 months
  • Question to current users I get syrupy pours every time I use the Strega 1) Would this filter screen have helped in producing great shots in your E61 machines ? 2) Has the flavour changed KK
  • It's here!!  Looks fantastic and I'm certain it's a lower profile on my group meaning even more space for up dosing.  Excellent service from the supplier also throwing in two spacers with the group seal.  The result in the shower/water dispersion is much more even and consistent across the entire screen.  As to the difference in shot quality KK to be honest I couldn't tell you despite doing back to back coffees swapping the screens in and out.  I reckon where this will have the legs over the other screens is in keeping them cleaner longer removing the 'fgunking' taint left by previous shots.
  • oooo hope mine gets delivered soon i sent them an email asking if it had been shipped yet but no reply :(
  • Mine arrived today. Fits the E61 Domus no worries. All installed, seems a better water distribution. Time will tell the results in the cup. Tim
  • Only day 2 and my decaf which can be very unforgiving poured beautifully... twice in a row. Nice and clean under there too.  Can only be an improvement even if by the smallest of increments.
  • Sounds promising in the early stages Brett, work those taste buds a bit harder  :coffee2: if you are getting improved dispersion I would have thought a more even extraction would follow and a better result in the cup, no matter how slight. short video following soon ? Keep us posted of your findings. Chester
  • Okay... No video because no time.  My verdict... These screens + VST = Category Killer :) Such a small comparative outlay for such a quality addition/upgrade.  There's so little grind retention in the screen and the VSTs a so much less temperamental...I was trying to befuddle the pour this morning by tamping off-centre.  Not a brilliant a looking result but tasted fine... Previously it'd be a sinker. If you haven't gone VST forget anything else and do yourself a favour... Put yourself in the top 5% of the bell-curve :P
  • P.s I've no affiliation with any product or company but would sell my opinions in a heart-beat for the right/any offer   :pan
  • I was going to wait for my current shower screen to wear out and then replace it But the thought of better coffee and specifically cleaner brew area tipped me over the edge So only 5 min ago I ordered one for the Strega KK
  • will it fit my S24?  Rancilio
  • The IMS screen is a great value upgrade. I was very disappointed with the water distribution (almost single torrent) tearing up the top of puck on my new e61 Lelit mara, very hard to keep clean and I have to assume not contributing much in the way of an even extraction. IMS screen, nice slow droplets, not to much seems to stick to it even when dosing high. Easy wipe clean with microfiber cloth, a lot less crap coming out of 3 way. Coupled with VST and pergtamp, just consistently great shots. I guess stock shower screens may differ from machine to machine some being better than others. So for some people there may not be a MASSIVE difference.
  • @KK ... You won't be disappointed!  I know the Bezzera screens are particularly good quality but these are a step-up again. @C-man ; ... I don't know to be honest but I would imagine not as the S24 isn't an e61 group-head. @Steve ... Nice machine that!  Puts me in mind of my old Unico Spendor, small package with a big capability.  Great to read your success with the VST and Laser-screen!!
