After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Cups vs Latte Art

Ok, so Ive been really focusing on getting my free pour skills up to a standard where, well, I can free pour some artwork.
At the moment its a hit and miss.

First coffee in the morning its usually a miss but then there are times where I get all my ducks in a row and pour a nice piece.

My question is, with which type of cup should I be practising with.
Currently I'm pouring in a duralex glass and a 150ml tulip.

Funny thing is with my little 90m espresso cups I can stain a macchiato rosetta more often better than with the duralex glass - don't know why, it just happens.

Is something like a 220ml cappuccino bowl a better option to practice with (see image)?
How do you do it? Tilt the cup, keep it flat on the bench, etc?

  • I'm no help at all, surprise, surprise, I can't do art of any sort. I can't even do stick figures lol. Nice cups though :).
  • I'm not an art guy.  I do a heart that ends up looking like genitals irrespective of the cup-ware.  Having said that, yes, I belive that the ACF 220-250mm cups are best and you tilt initially before levelling out.  I'd be watching videos however as opposed to listening to a self-confessed latte-pornographer.  In all other aspects of my life I assure you I'm quite dull and very, very prudish.

Thanks for the reply Brett. I've been eyeing off those cups for a while. $75 for a set is a bit hefty though.
  • As long as you don't drop them cups tend to be pretty good value compared to much of our coffee paraphernalia ;)
