After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Barista Training Qualifcations

I have been working as a barista for a few years now, and love it, but need a change. Can anyone tell me how to become a barista trainer for institutes such as TAFE, what qualifications do you need to have?

    Try contacting Tafe direct I think that you need to have a minimum training qualification, such as those offered by the food services department of the local council: it used to be called 'Train the Trainer' - but god only knows what they call it now... Cheers, Pat

    Mmme. I am sure you can do a Cert IV Training & Assess which gives you some teaching clout Do all the recognised barista courses Checkout where you can get acreditation... and come across as confident. Seriously, mosst tafe jobs come from networking your local TAFE (head of the hospitality school) and having industry experience.

    Hi Kiwibarista I have bean working on the training 'gig' for a few years. As previously mentioned you will need to do your Cert IV in Training and Assessment. You might also need to do a Hygiene course and then be assessed in Prepare and Serve Espresso Coffee THHBFB12B. Industry experience will be an added bonus. For TAFE you will need a current CV, letters from past/present employers stating your various roles. If a psotion is available you might be able to be employed as a Part Time Teacher. The pay is OK, but the work can be eratic. Classes can be cancelled due to shortage of numbers. Many classes are only 3-4 hours long and it can put a hole in your day. I have personally put a lot of work into this and am on the role as a part time teacher. I have assisted other local Baristas in being enrolled as TAFE part timers.
