Barista work in Melbourne

Hi coffee gals and boys, just looking at making the move too Melbourne to work as a barista. I have excellent experience behind me, love coffee, and I have decided Melbourne looks the best place to try out. Does anyone know what cafes are looking for in Melbourne? Here where I live, people treat it as a bit of a casual income (employers too I might add) for students and part-time jobs and the lack of professionalism or care by employees leaves me somewhat annoyed. I looking more for a career than just a job. I like to get stuck right into work.

Spent a little time wandering around the other week and love the feel of Melbourne. Any advice on the local scene would be great. Steering away from Sydney on personal grounds.

Hey there, Yes Melbourne is definitely the place to be for coffee! And plenty of employers take their coffee seriously, and have a genuine and vested interest in hiring / training experienced staff, and providing incentives for them to stay Carlisle Street, Balaclva (East St Kilda) - is a bit of a coffee Mecca, so you could try printing off a one page cover shhet, explaining a bit about yourself, and dropping it off at a few places. I've also noticed quite a few cafes around Melbourne advertising for coffee staff recently, so you just might be in luck! Cheers, Pat

I will attack it with vigour. I went to one cafe in the CBD, received a bacon and egg breakfast on a cold plate and my cappucino arrived in the form of a latte. So I headed down to Degraves and got myself a good cappucino.
