After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Would rather go without

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
For the past few months I have roasted enough for me to be able to take a bag in to work for myself and the bloke who shares my office and maybe even the girls downstairs. I was busy on the weekend so I didn't do my normal weekly roasting, 3 or 4 300gm batches of different beans. I have been hoarding "my beans" for my use at home.  ::)  and going without at work for the last 2 days.

Today the guy at work produced some beans and poured some into the grinder. Straight away my ears pricked up and the conversation went something like:

ME:    "where did you get those"
HIM:  "coles"
ME:    "thanks, but I would rather go without!"

He even said coles like it didn't matter and they were actually Coles beans, not just beans bought at Coles but they were Coles brand. Let's see how his taste buds feel after he finishes his cup! I wonder how long it will be before they start asking when I will roast again.

So, what was it that made you say: "thanks, but I would rather go without"

  • Might be worth a try actually. Coles have taken a few minor gongs at the Golden Bean awards over the last few years and Justin Metcalf was doing their roasting (not sure if that is still the case). Still not saying I would rush out to buy it but if offered I would try it. The major reason I wouldn't and don't generally support either of the big 2's own products is it is killing off the independent suppliers and grocery choice in Australia. No way in hell I believe the 'we are looking after customers' line of BS. I have today just finished off a small bag of Gloria Jeans coffee. Was reasonably fresh and #5 Brazilian COE. Nicely roasted not oily and a well balanced roast. But there is no way I would recommend their standard house blend :P
