Coffee bags

edited January 1970 in Accessories
As far as i know Coffeeparts and Coffeebags.net.au sell the one way valve stand up coffee bags.
The Coffeebags.net.au site seems to offer the most comprehensive range of bags including free freight for orders over $100.

Here in WA, i have tried looking for one way valve bags locally but have come up with nothing.  :(

Can anyone suggest  other sites that can service the coffee bag needs of a caffeine addict like me? :coffee:

  • That's the only decent site so far. I'll be using them. Well laid out n prices shown with a wide variety of bag capacities. Thanks Cremarian. Gary at G
  • I'm glad this came up, I need to order some, I've got to stop recycling others bags, it's not a good smell :D Just deciding which ones to go for :) valve or no valve, pretty colours or plain paper, I guess it depends on how much I'm going to spend, $13 vs $44 :D
  • Coffee parts are really good if ordering only a few and if you are order other parts. But too expensive for me at larger amounts. I have found Swiss pack to be the cheapest - http://swisspack.com.au/ . Partly because I work only 10k away and I can pickup. Quality is lower. Have had issues with one way valves not working and the plastic lining feels thinner. Did pass this on to them. Probably not an issue for home use but if you are selling to others.... Currently I use coffeebags.net.au as they have been the best value. Excellent customer service. Good quality. The earth bags are not the best. While better then leaving beans out in the open, 3 days in them is like a week and a half in a normal one way. The "Kraft look" use the same lining as the normal bags and beans last just as long in them. Great for writing on or stamping. Down side is they can get stained if using dirty or oily hands.
  • I just bought 100 of the 250g, Kraft paper, foil lined valve bags from coffeebags.net.au. SS - they state that it's $44 for them on the website but that's before GST.  So plus $12.50 delivery was $56.50 + $5.65 GST = $62.15 Still happy with that as I really love the Kraft paper lined ones for some reason!  62c a bag is good as well - I never re-use them because I'm too lazy to wash them out and don't like the smell!
  • I use the 250g Earth bags with tin ties primarily.  I don't see a need for a valve with small amounts.
  • Crem that was what I was going to go for, and who gave me the idea :) 250g doesn't last long for the average person so there shouldn't be too much of a worry and the way I store my beans anyway in tubes, there are no valves anyway and my coffee is always ok to my taste.
  • They are fully compostable if you remove the tin ties. Bonus in my book.

While I said that they aren't that great as to keeping the beans fresh, I totally agree with Cremarian on this point. Just rip the tin tie off and throw into the compost. Easy!
  • Keep in mind they have plastic lining inside of those bags, so while the paper part is compostable, the lining may take a long time to break down. I don't know the toxicity of the lining in compost, so if in doubt, don't do it, especially if you're growing veggies n fruit or any edibles. Gary at G
  • A good idea in a domestic situation if you want to re-use any coffee bag, is to use glad plastic bags and insert them into the one way valve bags opened so that the the beans can still de-gas without leaving rancid oils in the valve bag. Once the beans are exhausted, discard the plastic bag, insert another Glad bag in, pour your beans in, and you're good to go.  :) Gary at G
  • The bag that Crem sent me didn't have anything but paper, it was the same inside and out, maybe the valve ones do, have to have a look at that, I was looking at the non valve ones anyway.  I never roast for people to keep the beans for a long time so I think the earth bags should be ok.
  • The Earth bags have a lining made from cornflour.
  • Ahhh that's why I never noticed anything, all looks the same. :)
  • You can take used earth bags and thicken gravies with them.
  • Rather than start a new topic just a bit of info. Quite a number of us have purchased some 250 and 500g bags off Evilbay. Cheap at $25/100 for either delivered with a range of clear sided or all silver. ** Quality is generally excellent and great value. I have however just have a ziplock peel away from the bag on one. First issue in around 30 of them but I have never seen it happen with other bags.
  • Tim, the bag you gave of Mysore nuggets, on about 3 openings.... It did what you mentioned...... Peeled away......
  • I can't see on EBay where they are. I can see a more expensive version.... Is this the same seller jacking up the price now we have started talking.  If they are half the price of the beangreen offering then I won't buy them.  "Price is what you pay but value is what you receive" (Buffett).  I don't use mine once and discard, I like them to last.  I've had issue with the very corners of some zip-locks nor sealing.  Not worried at the old price but....
