After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

As to Steaming VS Texturing.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink  ;)

As to "Electrical Safety".

Only one true and correct statement for all re "Safety" and meeting National legislation and local laws.

* If your not the holder of appropriate Electrical qualifications, then do not remove any cover to gain access to the internals of any equipment and attempt to perform any work, be it electrical or even mechanical work. Even removing a cover can be considered a breach."

OR

If you intend to perform any work on the internals of any machine, powered by electricity and are NOT the holder of an appropriate licence;

1:  Turn off at the GPO, unplug the power cord and cut the plug off and place in the bin.

2:  Do what ever you wish

3:  Engage the services of a Qualified person to inspect and test for electrical safety and to replace the lead and plug.

Note: An electrical qualified person, may not be able to fix or ensure the machine is working; BUT they should be able to ensure the safety of all involved and will be responsible.

  • What's a GPO? I assume it has little to do with my local post office...  :stir

    Very close KK, but General Purpose Outlet. When I studied Electrical Engineering back in the 80's, we had to also pass the Electrician's License exams and thus study the Australian Standards wiring rules book very closely. Just like the bible, we were asked to recite sections at whim. The theory side of the tests involved questions just like these to trip up those folks who did'nt put much effort into their study. Any answers that were not verbatim from the AS yellow book were marked as incorrect, even a close answer would get marked as incorrect. Even though I never kept up my licenses studies, I believe they dropped the term GPO about 15 years ago and they refer to them as something like sockets or just outlets now.
  • Regardless of what we call them they can dispense lethal doses of Erg's. :o
  • GPO seems to be a standard abbreviation around here, but not one I'd ever heard until I moved to Aus. Actually, cutting off the plug  as a first step is excellent advice.  I have both received and given the same advice in the past. Telling people not to mess with electricity doesn't often work. Most that would consider opening up an appliance will not be deterred  by such advice. They may, however, be willing to remove the plug and get an electrical safety check on completion. It also means people can then give advice to whoever is doing the work secure in the knowledge they are not going to be responsible for endangering lives
