EM6910 repair - tripping ELCB

System

2 year old machine...


A: Powers up OK...


B: At some stage it trips the ELCB.


C: Insulation test = Fail.


D: No Leaks can be seen or any signs of such a leak


E: Let it sit for a day or two and it starts to heat, the system then attempts to fill / prime and TRIPS ELCB


C,D and E are repeated over a few days and then let it sit for  3 weeks and call ME  :'(


For all you budding T/Shooting teko's; What is the cause  >:D


Note: All the clues and pointers have been provided.  I have also seen almost the same fault, in another commercial type machine.


Pictures will be provided for those that a verbally impaired re the faulty xxxxx .

fails when pumping, so that's my guess.  pump.

Just snip off the earth pin, that'll stop it tripping the breaker.

Naughty naughty.... Even I know that's a bad thing to do and I refuse to even change a powerpoint/GPO myself opting to call a sparkie.  Helps to have a sparkie as a mate but as a home DIYer I've done everything you can do to a house (I think) except electricity.  I kinda don't want to know or understand because a little bit of knowledge...  :pan Love a guessing game but!  So I'm going with the bit of the control board that tell the pump to switch on and I reckon it's due to foreign matter... cleaning sprays, cockroaches, ants, spiders, coffee grounds....??

Just a wild guess, but insulation failure on a heating element that then leaks to ground through the  water once boiler is primed might explain it.

Obviously different to my machine, the solenoid only  operates while extracting and 'idles' with the dump valve open. As to running without an earth pin, long as you wear rubber gloves while using, you'd be ok. :stir Seriously though,  earth is not required for appliances to work correctly. Many appliances don't have an earth connection. Usually those that do have one, have it for EXTREMELY good safety reasons.  It is generally preferable for current to flow to ground though a wire than through a person when things go wrong. I was surprised and more than a little appalled when looking at a rental property in California to notice that most wall sockets were two pin and appliances with three pins were plugged in to adapters that left the ground pin disconnected.  Since we had several appliances requiring ground and value our lives, we chose not to rent that one.
