After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Been watching these with interest. Before I'd heard about this technology, I was wondering if digital cameras had reached their peak....but as always, technology comes up with solutions to problems you hadn't really thought about
Thanks for the link Its the first time I have heard of this technology So no megapixels at all I assume ? I might buy one if I am convinced that the picture quality is equal to a professional D SLR KK
It's not, and that's the main problem with this camera. I'm not taking away from its absolutely extraordinary achievement, because it is that, but there's a reason why all the demo shots have multiple subjects set far apart in the depth of field - because this is this camera's one trick pony. It takes fairly mediocre shots of any other type and is reportedly quite fiddly and unwieldy to use. HOWEVER: this is a camera that will get better over time as lytro release firmware that will bring serious upgrades to the camera. It's also 1st gen - it will get incrementally better with each new hardware revision. But it's not a serious challenger for high end DSLRs just yet.
I'm still waiting on the D400!! I may need a D800 but only time and a play will tell. I am seriously not interested in the LFC project. Does that make me a dinosaur??
It was kinda hard to work out whether this was pseudo science marketing fluff, or real, given it is from the vendors of said camera. I couldn't get a handle on how you would capture additional information, as the light falling on the sensor is distinct from the light on the object and affected by the lense, so I went digging for info on light fields and cameras. This helped explain it a bit more. http://www.cfar.umd.edu/~aagrawal/sig08/BuildingLightFieldCamera.html Interesting stuff indeed.
