After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Betsy's back

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
It's good to have her back on the bench, although it's almost like learning a whole new machine.

Sorry I didn't catch up with anyone, yesterday was a nightmare of last-minute stuff and I didn't get out to Bezzera until 6pm.

  • Awwwww, no more 99 :(
  • Oh wow... Now that's a significant upgrade  :thumb:
  • Wondered how long it'd be before someone noticed. Chris was rather awesome yesterday and good deals were done all around. Best bit is that it's got the same footprint so everything fits on my bench.
  • No forcing of upgrades - I mentioned I would miss having an HX and Chris said he'd upgrade me if I wanted it. Couldn't resist the offer. But wait... burns?
  • :) That will teach me to pass comment on chat before reading the forum. Nice work but there is still a Strega in your future  :stir
  • Thats a PID BZ07 in the photo Easy to use as eating pie Same rules apply as to fresh beans, grind and tamp Now you can have a party and not worry about steam KK
  • Tell me about it. The steam on this thing is incredible and the two-hole tip is much easier that the 99's four hole tip. Texturing has never been do easy.
  • Very nice http://www.bezzera.it/en/prodotti/2012-02-24-16-30-55/bz07 Did you get the dual gauge?  Adjusting the brew temp is great fun and can on rare occasion bring an average blend/roast to life.  Mostly it's just good fun!!
  • Nice machine mate.  I'm surprised it wasn't a Strega, but your right, same size so win win. Did the Mrs even notice?  ;D
  • That option wasn't available - had the choice between the BZ10 and this because I wanted the same footprint. Anything else is too big for our current space. But I thought the PID was an easier route than mucking around with the internals to get the temp right. I'm assuming I'll need AM to check out the OPV status at some point, but that can wait.

Not yet. I'm not hiding it from her or anything - just waiting until she notices. She even commented "it looks strange to have our coffee machine back on the bench". AND she's commented in the past that she didn't like the look of PIDs on machines.  :coffee2: Strega will come, but this deal was way too good to pass up. We're hoping to move late this year, so perhaps the Strega will come to be then.
  • Hmmm... I wonder if that dual-gauge could be done as a mod.....

Me thinks you'll miss the PID once you start living with it.  You might need both  :thumb:
  • Congrats K! Have fun temp surfing with the PID and I agree with Brett, you will miss it when gone  :coffee2:
  • I'll be interested in comparing notes on PID use, particularly for certain beans/blends. Looking forward to it! Did I mention the steam on this thing is insane?

You SOB. I didn't even notice   but I only have eyes for a 99  Nice work Kelsey
  • I'll think I'll be texturing my boy's milk today rather than nuking his sippy cup. ;)
  • So it has better steam power than the 99  ? or just better control with the 2 hole tip ?
  • Hard to say. It feels more powerful than the 99, but it's hard to say without them being side by side. The two-hole tip makes it look like a lot and it's vastly easier to texture.
  • It has a smaller boiler so the 2 hole steam tip makes it equal as less steam is expended KK
  • That makes sense KK. Oddly it's a little sensitive with its water tank. If I put it in the right way around (the 'water return' pipes feed into a hole on the lip - and they're short, so it can only go in one way) it doesn't trip the water volume switch. Put in the wrong way tho, it does. Got a bit of wadded up alfoil in there but it's a little touchy.
  • Do you take the water tank out Kel?  I would just use a jug to fill it up.
  • Mine goes through a temperamental phase from time to time with the water sensors. A lift and refit of the tank does the trick
  • It's more temperamental than even that - even filling via a funnel can disturb it enough and a reseat needs the alfoil in place. No biggie, bit of curvature of the bottom of the tank. I'll sort it out.
