After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Thanks for sharing! Interesting, some of our guesses were vaguely on track. That Kenyan definitely came through. Which reminds me, I need to buy some. Bag 2 was certainly enigmatic. What does the Tarrazu contribute? Is that where the mouthfeel comes from? The robusta was a long shot guess -- I know that there are people out there who can make good use of it, but I'm not one of them, and I don't use it anymore. Both roasts I thought were technically fine so any suggested "improvement" is relative only to my preference. The only thing I would do differently would be to roast bag 1 a little lighter, to my taste it was (on most but not all shots) a little on the "roast flavour" side. But maybe you've tried that and don't like it
Thanks for your reply. No problem with the delay, I'm good at that myself but with not as good an excuse. Interesting, definitely similar theories on roasting styles. On the Quest though I come out with somewhat shorter times eg my "full on" profile (1200W) will usually see 1C around 8:00 and finish around 12mins (but I back off to about 40% power about a minute before 1C). And my "bit softer" profile starts at around 1000W , 1C about 10mins and finish about 14. Can't find the Hottop. That's bad. I'm sure you'll find it pretty soon .... Hope the move has gone well, I hate to think how traumatic it would be if we had to move after 20 odd years in one place accumulating interesting stuff. All this reminds me that I'd neglected to post about my blend. I drafted something a while ago then forgot to post it. So for the record, here is some information about the blend I sent out. Actually I sent out two packets. The first was a preblend 35% Mountain Top Bin 35, 35% Monsoon Malabar, and 30% Ceja da Silva. The second was Yemen Al Hajj Boa'an. The way we have this at home is either the blend by itself, or with some of the Yemen mixed in (ie for one shot). So its sort of a four way blend with one part optional. I do it this way partly because the three part blend is nice by itself, and sometimes we like to have just the Yemen (it is an outstanding SO after all). Roasting was on the Quest M3 on my "slow" profile. This basically holds power constant at around 850W (max is 1200) all the way through, with fan a touch above minimum. First crack was at 12:30, finished around 15:30 (218C on the BT probe, just on second crack). Done in three batches of 240g, timings basically identical for each. The Yemen was done the same way.
