After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Service your maching (3300cups) or Replace with New model?

Hi,

I have a Krups Orchestro Dialog FNF247 which has served us well over the year, and we are at approx 3300 cups (usually 2 per day) apart from when we have a family party and I it gets a good workout making 12-20 coffee's that day.

The seals are coming due for replacement and i am at a fork in the road.

Should i service it, or replace it with something new.

If the recommendation is for new, what models should i be looking at?

thanks in advance.

  • You have to ask yourself ? Do I like the coffee from this machine ? If yes then do the service KK

If it is just replacing seals then you may as well get it fixed if it is fairly cheap and the Krups is otherwise suiting your needs. One thing that doesn't quite add up is that you say the machine has made 3300 cups in a year. That's more like 10 cups per day than 2 per day. If the repair cost is high and replacement is warranted, would you only consider replacing with a super-automatic machine similar to your Krups? Most of the recommendations you are likely to get from people here would be more towards a robust manual or semi-automatic Italian espresso machine.
  • I tend to agree that, if you have been happy with it and it is a matter of service as a preventative measure, rather than fixing a potentially expensive fault, you should go  ahead and service. Check out relative cost of service compared to replacement though. These days it  is sometimes cheaper to buy new and offload the old unit on the bay while it is still fully operational.
