After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

  • I am aiming to make this a 3 kilo roaster. Probably will need 2 hot air guns to do it and some trickery. Will see how it turns out in due course.
  • Will the standard pan hold 3 kg of expanded by 3 fold roasted beans ?
  • Hi O.C.F. I will be removing the standard pan and enclosure, taking the rotator connection off the pan, and putting a longer rod from it to a much larger and wider pan that will probably be at least a 10 litre size. I wanted the motor of the bread maker to do it with. As I have a spare pan for this machine, it should mean I can interchange the pans for sample (up to 1 kilo) roasts as I do now, and then install the bigger pan for larger roast volumes. I need to experiment with gun placement and do some heat measurements to optimise the process. Im considering having an inner pot with "colander" holes and placing a gun external to this for heat, and one as normal from the top. If I can get the rise in heat that roasts the volume without hot spots, and will do it about 7-10 degrees C a minute, then that will the way to go. The temp can then be controlled by switching between high and low heat per gun, and even by switching one gun off when the beans go exothermic. My concern is to keep the pan temperature as even as possible. The rotator will have to be designed in such a way as to allow a change of bean position in the pan, moving the beans and allowing the beans on the top of the pile to be moved downwards in a continual process to keep the roast even.  This happens in the standard pan up to 1 kilo on tests with coloured beans so I want to keep the rotator design as close to it is right now. blade.gif I will of course have to make a bigger blade for a larger pan. However, the design of the blade allows a sweep of the base, removing beans in front of it, the beans are filled behind the blade with the fall of the beans above it, and the raised part of the blade ensures a constant equal pattern of pulling the beans from the top of the pile.
