KitchenAid Artisan and backflush..

Hi to all! This is my first post and a noob in espresso making but having fun learning with my new KichenAid Artisan.

My question related to backflushing. I have read accounts that this is only required on machines with 3 way solenoid valve and the KitchenAid manual states that it has one. The manual however (in the cleaning and maintenance section) makes no mention of the backflush procedure and the package did not include a blind filter. I guess I need some confirmation on whether I am able/should backflush before I purchase a blind filter and undertake the task. Hope you can shed some light!

fojean Welcome to the forum. Do not know much about your type of machine. However, many of the pro-sumer type machines do not come with the blind filter and do not mention anything about backflushing or chemical cleaning. I think this could be related to a 'liability' type of an issue or the consumer blowing the machine and themselves up. But strongly suggest that you check with the equipment company 'first' before you do any backflushing. John

Hi fojean, I'm pretty sure the Kitchenaid machine is internally two Gaggias cobbled together in one machine, and as such will have a 3 way solenoid valve.

And like many pro-sumer machines, the Pro Line has the 3-way solenoid valve

Of course you should check with the relevant authorities ie wherever you bought it or perhaps email customer support at Kitchenaid. -Stephen-
