After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

start up costs

Hi all,

Just wondering how much it costs to start your own coffee house/cafe from scratch? Any does and don'ts for the inexperienced?  Am a newbie... and was wondering how much I should start saving!!

  • about 100 g  if you lease a clean new premises     minimum required.      thats what my friend did it for. lease expresso machine etc depends if you serve food or not.   if you do and go beyond snacks the sky is the limit. cheers david
  • I know nothing about the 'cafe industry' per se, but I do know one of the biggest start up costs is not having a business plan. Lilliput, I don't know what your small business experience is, but from personal and professional experience, it is important to make sure you undertake a complete self-audit about issues such as why you are seeking to start a cafe, what is going to be your point of differentiation (and don't make it price!), what are your financial objectives (which should include paying yourself), etc. I believe, to succeed, you have to be passionate about what you are doing, but don't be blinded by that passion, if you know what I mean. Good luck Patrick
