After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

PV Lusso + Rosco Hand Mill

Hi there,

I am a new owner of a PV Lusso and have been using a old hario grinder without too much success. I've re-set the pressure to max out at 1.1 bar as per suggestions I've seen on various forums, but can't quite crack a nice shot with a reasonable crema...

I have a rosco grinder "in the mail" and am wondering if any one else has this particular set-up and can advise on setting the grind size. There are a lot of variables and I am playing around with various tamp pressures and grinds, but it would be nice to have a reference setting for the grinder.

The internet is terrible for watching people pull beautiful shots from their PVL - it's frustrating to know the machine is capable - but I can't manage it.

  • Up until recently Crema member Lacehim had the Twin Lever Lusso Done many great mods However he has recently upgraded to a bling lever, the Quickmill Achille KK
  • It's a capable machine, I used to own one.  I ground a little finer than my old espresso machine, and I only used the double baskets. From memory I dosed the basket, then tamped it lightly, then refilled and tamped again. The basket should be tamped only 3mm or so from the top.  They are deep baskets and the shower screen is high!  The fellini works well, just pull the lever down, let it rise half way and pull it back down, and let it rise fully.  You'll get a 40ml shot that way.  I pulled a shot per cup, it's not worth splitting. Make sure you use quality fresh beans or roast your own. I loved mine, but I ended up with a few issues regarding quality and PV did rectify them, but I decided to spend more and go with a commercial lever, and I now own a Quick Mill 0996 Achilles.  It was the perfect home lever though!  Easy to use, and temperature stable and so cute and small.  Good luck with yours, it will be lovely paired with the rosco.
  • Thanks KK, I was just getting there... ;) Oh and secretsenor leave the pressure stock for now.  1.0-1.1 bar is fine.  Concentrate on your dose, grind and tamping method but only modify one at a time or it will all get a bit frustating. :) Post up a piccy too!  We all love to see the machines!
