Atomic rebuild

Hi all. I made a start on restoring 1 of the 2 Atomics I picked up recently.
The brown/orange one works fine as is but leaks a bit of steam from the dodgy water cap / safety valve. The plain one needs a lot of lovin'.
I stripped the steam arm off it and it looks like someone has had a crack at repairing the threads in the body with epoxy. 1 big helicoil coming its way I think.
There appears to be no threads in the posts that hold the filter screen either so they will cop the same treatment. I'm putting a complete steam arm assembly on it too.
The OE one was pretty seized and although it freed up fine a new one is cheap enough so why not. New seals and water knobs for both, a few new baskets and we should be good to go.
The plain alloy one will be the camping set up I think. Not too sure on what to descale the insides with at this stage but its pretty feral in there. The group seal in the plain one came out like a piece of dehydrated fruit. Anyway, the process begins.

Is it still possible to get genuine parts for  these? Helicoil might  work fine, but surely replacement would be better to keep it original.

Helicoil will work great. It's M14 x 1.25 which is a standard spark plug thread. Cluey fella that Italian. A replacement means a replacement machine as the threads in question are in the body of the machine. As for "genuine parts", no I don't believe so. After market through Jack would probably be better than OE anyway

I did this a few years ago with small (3-4hp) marine Putt Putt engines.... There's 13 of em now all sitting out in the shed.... One day.... I did get a very nice 3.5 hp Penguin, hardly used...flew down to Geelong and crated it myself... Came from Pompei's boat shed on Mordialloc Creek. Now I just have to build the David Payne 5.5 m double ender to put her in.... Ah yes, and then there's the Vinco, and the Olds.... Aaah yes, the Olds.... A man and his toys, eh D? How bout a Otto.... Soooo Glossy....

Too glossy OG :rofl: Bit of an update too. The steam arm thread is not 14 x 1.25. It's quite odd really, the thread on the valve measures pretty close to 1/2 inch x 20 tpi UNF ( which is very close to 1.25 metric) but it's just not quite perfect. I'll have to wait for the new one from Jack to arrive and measure it as the OE one has seen better days.
