Went into Joyce Mayne today to look at ovens and saw a Breville Youbrew for sale.

Looked interesting, grinds on demand for drip coffee.

Anyone got any first hand experience with one of these?

Not first hand. It has between out for a couple years now. I suspect their primary target market for this one  is USA. Maybe some of our American members have seen or used one? I have read (Professional Barista's Handbook, Scott Rao) that grind to order is less of an issue with filter coffee and grinding a few hours ahead is acceptable.

pretty much what I thought. Has to be a cut above instunt and far easier to maintain than a super auto that seems to be the usual option these days

I hadn't seen a machine with the grinder built in before.  Basic models can be had for $50 ish. I was thinking of moving on from espresso for a while and putting the money towards the new kitchen (lots of $$$), and going for a more basic approach for coffee at home for a while.  I have to admit the standard of espresso in the area has improved so it's not like I can't go out for one now and again. I might have to go for a taste test.

That's interesting @Lacehim, I'm buying some decent espresso gear so I don't have to go out and buy two coffee's; at least twice a day... I reckon we would spend a minimum of $120- to $150- per week on take-away coffee's and that doesn't include the 18 Klm's return for each 'coffee run'... There's gotta be a better way........ 18k's x 14 trips- that's another 252 Klm's or what? $50- per week on fuel.... $200- per week down the gurgler, literally! That there's a lotta beans, lots and lots of beans....

I'll still be roasting, brewing at home, it's not like I'm giving up coffee. I've actually been getting quite interested in manual brewing methods of late, so this might be a good starting point, and selling the lever will help to pay for the $6k oven we just found!  :tearhair:

Wow.... 129!! I've purchased from Billy Guyatts and they're great!  I should have looked there first.  I'm not in the market for one mind you... But last time I saw a bargain (bodum syphons at half price) I couldn't help but share the love.
