Since I bought the K3 Push I've not been very happy with its performance. As I dared to turn the setting finer and finer the burrs would touch (YIKES) and I'd back it off.
One day I noticed there was a fair amount of fore-aft rocking play in the adjusting collar. If I get close to the right grind and lightly touch the front of the collar, the burrs would touch. If I pressed at the rear the touching would stop.
I have a dial indicator and measured the rocking play at about 12-thou inch (about 0.3mm). That struck me as a huge amount of play and potential for crazy grind variance.
To my mind the issue is twofold. That the thread in the main body was machined askew, and the thread length in the adjusting collar is too short allowing the rocking play. Or the other possibility is that the motor is not on axis with the threads.
Whichever it is the burrs cannot ever be parallel to one another and thus the grinds go from too fine to too coarse, the average of which is how I have to adjust the grinder to get a satisfactory pour.
Early December I was lucky enough to have a K6 for a week and the differences in taste were astonishing. This inspired me to play around with the K3 to see if I could get the burrs to be more parallel somehow.
The first few attempts were cumbersome ... I would grind while pressing down at the rear, trying to maintain the same position, pressure (is it too much, is it too little).
Eventually I came across the following solution - announcing MOQ's K3 Push burr parallelism fixing device, patent pending ;D
