After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

New emo480 won't grind

edited January 1970 in Grinders
G'day.

I splashed out and got a Sunbeam EMO480 Grinder today. It won't work,ie. it makes all the right noises when you put in the portafilter, but nothing comes out. It doesn't sound as though it's getting any beans in the burrs. I've followed the instructions to the letter, taken the parts off that are meant to come off, reseated the top burrs, but nothing works.

I'll take it back in a week, as I only have one opportunity a week to get into town. How embarrasing it would be if I recieved a replacement machine, only to find out that it doesn't grind either, because I'm so stupid I didn't set it up properly!!!

Anyone else with this problem, straight from the box?

Thanks, Rob.

  • Hi again Disregard my last post, as my grinder now grinds! The problem was the hopper and the shutter release at the bottom of the hopper. You have to place the hopper in position, then turn it clockwise. Fine, I was doing this from the start, but you have to keep on turning it past the first audible "click" to open the shutters. Dohhh!!! I always thought that the problem was the nut behind the wheel! After experimenting with some old beans to get the grind right, my Luwak coffee tastes sweeter and smoother than ever (I wouldn't buy it again because of the price, but at least I can say that I've tasted cat droppings!) Now, about upgrading my machine.....(my  better half would kill me) thanks, Rob.
