After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Getting a van - where to start?

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
I am not into technical stuff, more the recommended sequence of fitting out a van. What do you do first - get a van from dealer, and then find someone to fit it out, or do you go to a fitout place and get them to do it all?

BTW - I am not going to fit out coffee van, mine is going to be ice cream :-)

  • Hi, Yeah, it's more about coffee here than ice-cream ... but, if you want to be mobile, albeit Greensleeves playing in the background, please get seriously technical-minded before being operational. It's imperative to know every aspect of your equipment back-the-front. And choose your chariot to market your op. Ice-cream I hear needs high volts - so you're inevitably going to be noisy, with a high decibel genny. Insulate the gen-set big time, a loud if possible re-mix of the enchanting Greensleaves on max in the speakers to drown out the genny humm in the background, & think design - layout-wise with customer flow. Coffee/ice-cream mix ... now there's an idea? agrofarto
  • ;D Yes, music would drive the crowd, but not always in the right direction!!! The generator noise would hopefully be eliminated by having the right location where you can plug into someone's power... We are only looking at serving from the van, so less energy than with full making/serving op. Everyone is telling us we NEED to have coffee to go with ice cream but for now we are going to try it alone. Next year a barista course might be the way to go  :-?
  • Sounds to me that maybe you're planning a pure weekend focus with your planned op? 'Someone's power' is not always adequate.  You'll need a 15-20 amp outlet for minimum power in such a scenario - rarely available, so have a bloody good gen-set base happening as back-up. And to re-iterate, being mobile, think lay-out design! Tony
