After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

In need of a mentor.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Nicole, I am 20 years old and I have been working in the hospitality industry since old enough to be of employment.

I am looking to open my own cafe in the next 2-3 years and am currently undergoing a diploma course in Small Business management to help achieve this goal.

Now, as I am wanting to know each and every odd and end that is entailed within the "cafe startup" I am looking for someone willing to help me with various questions, opinions and advice that will prove to be usefull.

Looking around this website, I can see alot of intelligent and experienced people within the industry and would greatly appreciate any advice regarding litterally ANYTHING to do with the beginning stages of opening a cafe.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Nicole  :)

  • Nicole- where are you based? Chris
  • Nicole, please bear one thing in mind. It takes little time to take a call and talk about something....but it can take quite a bit of time to write/reply to emails. That said (written
  • Chris - I am based in Sydney.  :) FC - Thankyou, I know it is time consuming, but I wanted an idea of who would be willing to help, instead of bombarding random people with questions.  ;D Nicole
  • Nicole I agree with FC. From what I can read into your posts, the type of information you are requesting would take up numerous pages. There are persons and companies that could offer this type of advice, however, I believe that there would be a fee for services. If you send me an email, I could give you a few names to contact. • Thank you John, I would greatly appreciate that. I will send you a PM regarding my email address. Thanks for the advice and direction!
  • Nicole, hi I was wondering what small business course you are doing as I'm also interested in opening a cafe but am overwhelmed by it all really.  Are you finding your course helpfull?   :)
  • Increadibly helpfull. ;D All assessments that are set, can be based on the business of your choice. Therefore, all assessments of mine are based on a cafe/coffee shop. It makes it better for understanding not only the work/ assessments involved but also I am getting more organised research regarding what I wanted to know about opening a cafe. The TAFE course I am doing teaches you everything. Legal Aspects, Identifying Business opportunities, Admin requirements, Customer service stratagies, Taxation and payroll, Promoting the business, marketing and many more. If your serious and are willing to put in 110% go for it. I do my course 2 days per week for 3 hours per day. The course runs for 2 years.  :)
