After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Bullet Coffee Roaster

Interesting interview with the creator of the bullet coffee roaster.

Roasting up to 1kg.  I will be interesting to see if this gets an traction in the home roasting market here in Australia because at an estimated $2000US it's a lot more practical price wise than the competition.

Now they just have to make it! :)

  • Been talked about for quite some time on other threads, still only the pre order offer with no real hard supply or release date.  Will have to be quite a machine to do a better job than the CCR 1kg, yes the CCR is dearer but it is well made and does a great job.  The final price of the bullet landed on our soil will no doubt be somewhat higher than the $2000us. • I think with these things patience goes out the window with a lot of people.  Its takes time to design and test, and make improvements and then get it to the market.  I'm sure they will get there eventually.  There certainly seems to be a bit of interest on other forums, and I even see a few companies listing it on their online stores already!!! If it does make it's target price it would be a pretty cheap product compared to other brands that are available.
  • Landed cost will almost certain higher. At current exchange rates it'll be $1931 + shipping + GST + customs clearance fees. It should not attract duty. I'd peg it at just shy of $2500 landed cost, which is getting up there. That said the vapor ware Hottop 1kg and the more real Gene Cafe 1kg are both rumored to be even more expensive: $5k US for the Hottop and the Gene has been set at about 5K Euros!!!! That's not chump change. Just shows what good value the KKTO was.
  • Yeah I think your about on the money there.  Still great price compared to the other roasters in that bracket (if they get it finished). My KKTO is still cracking along fine though!  Still waiting on KKs next generation roaster though. [emoji6]
  • That's a great looking unit I'd love to get my hands on one !
  • i must say id be pretty happy with one of these on my desk!
  • Yes but I'll stick with the KKTO unless a philanthropic benefactor wants to make a kind donation
  • Matter of time now before Sweet Maria,s do what is most likely be the world,s first review of the Bullet soon. What we saw on the videos were mere teasers. Members on other forums are getting sweaty palms waiting already.    [emoji28]

price will be around the $3k mark. ETA end of this year. Preorders available from talk coffee in Melbourne from what I have seen.
  • Price is $2500 excluding GsT direct from Aillio for the 240V version.  Google's your friend.  I like the look of these but for back to back consistent 1kg roasts on a budget I'll not be trading my KKTO!
  • I have been roasting 1 kg batches for a couple of years now on the KKTO And it's 1/4 of the price KK

Even cheaper if you've got the bits lying around in ya shed  :thumb: Perhaps this one can roast inside like the Behmor.
  • I think this will be a step up from the KKTO. The KKTO is a superb value for money quality convection roaster. This unit is a conduction roaster, so there will be noticeable differences. The "supposed" program-ability and control looks promising. If it does what the designers set out to achieve, it should be able to produce excellent results. If it does or does not roast 1kg is irrelevant. Even a 800g roast will be sufficient. Buying a roaster just for 1kg capacity is a waste of time and money. The roaster has to be able to deliver certain benefits to justify its price. Let's hope this one does. ECM are importing this roaster, so there should be a few retailers who will be offering it for sale. I am quite particular as to who gets my business. Ego is not an endearing quality for a retailer to possess.
  • Well said Lwowiak!  I agree with your thoughts especially the final ones!  Ego and Machiavellian Machinations will never get my business!!  If there's a need for that, there's clearly something not right.  I don't know it's for me but only because of the price... which is a steal for what it purportedly offers!
  • Ditto I'm selective about how and where I spend my money and I'll be choosing carefully my place of purchase
  • Well I've just pulled the trigger and put a pre order in with Coffee Parts for one. Lets see what happens mid year.  ??? ??? ???
  • Wow... Review and pictures or it never happened ;) A big  :thumb: mate!!  Great news!!
  • OK I'm officially jealous now!
  • Well done Ash. Enjoy the roaster when it arrives. Looking forward to reading  this upcoming chapter of your coffee journey. It would certainly help those who havent bit the bullet just yet. [emoji106]
  • I just can't believe that SWMBO said yes! ??? When I get it, I'll flood this thread with pictures and impressions.
  • We are waiting with baited breath!  :thumb:
  • Nice looking piece of kit, that. Also liked this bit ... You can plug this little bug right into a household outlet, and it’s certainly an aesthetic step up from your average home roasting enthusiast’s popcorn popper setup. It'd wanna be .. my popcorn popper cost $30 ... and this baby costs 100x that at around $3k... so yeah, a step up of monumental proportion indeed. Did I say I want one? Blimey .. either that or a Bezzera Strega ... hmm? ... might hold off and give it some more thought.
  • I've got one on pre order through an Aussie distributed too. Can't wait.
  • Wonder how it stacks up compared to a couple of behmor plus machines? Would love to do a side by side comparison! P
  • Well the anticipation is starting to build. From what I have seen on the interwebz, It looks like I may receive this roaster sometime in October or November. I've been following the pre-order folks facestalking page with interest. There has been a few niggles with the initial production machines, which hopefully will be sorted in the next lot of production machines. A lot of the niggles have made it into the users manual which has solutions. One of the more annoying reported niggles was an issue of beans popping out the front door. Apparently this was solved by ensuring the drum was fully forward in the roaster prior to roasting, and the was also a manufacturing solution in which the leading edge of the drum (originally chamfered) has been replaced by a straight edge. Here's hoping this solution makes it into the production models Hopefully I get it before Christmas!! :coffee2:
  • And hopefully we can all life vicariously through you :)
  • I've got one on pre order too and am also hoping they sort some of the niggles out :) looking forward to it though. It's been a long wait Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  • Hi guys, I'm really interested to see how you go with this roaster.  Heating up of the electronics and pricey replacements is my main concern.  I hope I'm wrong.  Apart from that concern this is a little winner.  I saw it at MICE and was impressed. I am holding out for a 1kg Behmor though.  I don't know when it will come but I'm told it will. A 1 kg Gene Cafe is another option but that's not in Aus yet. Cheers :)
