After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Broken Behmor drum

Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone could post a pic of their Behmor drum, more specifically the hinged bit on the lid?
Mine has come off and neither hubby nor I can recall how the hinge went in.

Either that or a suggestion on how to fix it :(

Thanks, Sue.

  • Hi Sue, I’ll get on this ASAP!
  • Hi Brett, Thanks so much  :coffee2:
  • Brilliant Brett, thanks so much. I was trying to force it in a way it wasn't meant to be forced but I can see how it goes now so thank you for that. Any ideas on how to create a "hinge"?
  • So now my initial madness has worn off, I can't think practically if I am *&*^$# off, I am starting to tcome up with some possible solutions. I was thinking along the lines of fashioning some small rings out of a sacrificial oven tray :/. Not sure if it would work but it has to be worth a shot.

What about some stainless steel car-key rings or some copper wire?
  • I'm up for all and any suggestions Brett. Would they be food safe?
  • surely that other mob who shall not be mentioned has spare parts? might be faster and more convenient just to order a replacement drum? Pat PS Thanks for reminding me I need to do a couple of roasts tomorrow been through 2kgs in a month for personal usage!
  • Ha ha ha. I didn't see any listed in the shop but I will contact them if need be. I contacted Behmor and they want so much info, serial number when/where purchased and a phone number they won't accept so I will try other avenues first. I have some stainless tell wire on the way so we will see where that takes us. Enjoy your roasting session. I was lucky and got one batch done, some Geishas, but that was it. I now have approx 600gms to keep me going until I can roast again.
  • I bought my Behmor from KBean. If in doubt, give him a shout!
  • Thanks Brett, will do. Mine came from BeanGreen, probably a couple of years ago. Early 2017 sounds about right.

Copper wire should be safe in the Behmor. The temperature won't go above 300deg. You can use it and do a couple of dry runs to burn of any residue, if worried. My KKTO has copper wire holding the temp probe in place, and also around parts of the agitator. The drum is SS as well. My baby roaster is essentially a copper drum, so it is safe to say it is quite common in this arena. Sometimes a simple fix  with wire can work wonders. Spare parts are always notoriously expensive. Good luck with the repairs.
  • That is good to know Lwowiak thanks, at least I know it is now an option. Thanks again.
  • please keep us informed of your progress for future reference! by the way i tried to do a roast while working from home the other day and burned the crap out of it - cant devote my attention to two separate things it seems! did another that night and all was good - need to give the beans the attention they deserve (bit like the Mrs) Pat
  • Will do Pat. At this stage we are just waiting for the stainless steel wire to arrive. I have my fingers crossed it will get here before the weekend but I'm not holding my breath. I know what you mean. I try to roast on weekends when hubby or my oldest son are home so they can deal with the little one if need be. When it comes to roasting I can't do two things at once. Ha ha ha.
  • The wire has arrived so if hubby can work his magic I may even get a roast in tonight. It is waaaay better than what I have been contemplating the last couple of days
  • Awesome! Pictures of it didn’t happen..... :stir
  • I'll get hubby to take some before and afters, hopefully he is up to after getting home from work. Just in time too, I was having visions of going out to the supermarket after dark and something about a paper bag  ???
  • Well, hubby fixed it last night and I did one roast. I'll do another roast tonight and have him take a pic- he just wanted to make sure it would be ok first.

    Great news!!!
  • Thanks Brett. All is well I think, I did another roast last night. ilc9hg.jpg
  • Wow... that’s the ticket! Very neat job indeed!! Let us know when ICT arrives! Did you do Sendle?
  • Thanks. I will do. I messaged them yesterday and they got back to me with tracking and shipping details. They were sent on Monday. I went with Aust Post and is still showing them to be in Queensland so I think probably earlyish next week. I will let you know when they get here though.
