After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Aussie Beans

edited January 1970 in Green Beans
Has anyone had much experience with Aussie beans?

I bought some a few weeks ago and was so excited to try them, unfortunately I was pretty disappointed  :-[

Anyone had any luck with them?

  • I had amazing beans a few years ago. It’ll be on a thread somewhere!
  • Hmmm, I was wondering if maybe I could have roasted them a little darker. I might push them a bit further next time and see what I get. Thanks.
  • Found the thread. Thanks.
  • What grower did you get them from? I’ve had the natural from MTC before and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I’d get the washed next time for sure though as the natural wasn’t easy to roast on the Behmor. I also know people who have tried Sunbury and been really happy. There are quite a few other growers now, but I don’t anything about them sorry.
  • Hi LeroyC. They are from Skybury. I am just about to run out of the Ethiopians in the hopper and the rest of the Aussie ones will be back in the hopper by the weekend, so I will be giving them another go. They weren't bad, just not what I expected I guess. Next time I will aim for a darker roast and see what that gives me.

Skybury is what I meant (thanks autocorrect). As I said I haven’t actually tried them, but I know a few people that have bought them in the past and been really happy. I did however here that their most recent crop wasn’t up to the same standard. I’m sure you’ll still be able to get them to a point where you’re reasonably happy with them, they just might not be all that exciting. What makes you think you need to go darker/further? Are they a little grassy or under developed?
  • Ha ha, it happens. That is the perfect way to descibe them, not overly exciting, not horrible but they just don't have that wow factor. They are not grassy or under developed, just a bit thin and lacking. Maybe they just aren't for me. I'll pop some more in the roaster in the near future and see what happens.
  • MTC is also a favorite and really well priced!
  • Do they have prices available Brett? I couldn't find anything.
  • https://www.mountaintopcoffee.com.au/green-bean-1kg/ Should have pricing. I can’t remember the rules about posting outside links so it this offends anyone let me know and I’ll take it down.
  • Thanks. I was looking at the wrong MTC  :thumb:
  • last time I tyried them I paid an arm and a leg for green beans I dunno if they were from a poor crop or not but no m,atter what I tried I was unable to get a good roast out of them !
  • Wow... I used the KkTO last time and they great! I must get some again!
