After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Ordering Cuba beans with PayPal, beware!

edited January 1970 in Green Beans
Hey guys! Recently had a strange experience I thought I'd bring to everyone's attention. Trying some new green beans, some Colombian, Cuba, and Uganda.

I put through the order, paying through Paypal, and got an email saying they had to review the transaction. Few days later it was rejected and refunded to me without explanation! Very very strange, as PayPal had never done this before...

So I tried again. Same thing, review, and then rejected. They then sent me a message, and it basically said that:

"U.S. regulations currently prohibit the purchase or sale of various goods and services originating from or being shipped to Cuba."

I was so puzzled haha... and then it occurred to me that PayPal is a U.S. based payment system. Then I looked it up and apparently there's some embargo between the U.S. and Cuba and their products. Had no idea about that, nor do I even know what's going on between the two! Perhaps some rocky relationship of sorts...

And they also asked me to kindly not send this payment again, and will close my account if I violate the terms again.

So if you ever order Cuban green beans from anywhere (even if the beans are currently in Australia and aren't being sent from Cuba!), you may have PayPal troubles! Using other payment methods are fine.

Very bizarre!

  • lol... is that old thing still going on :D Please explain all of the Americans smoking Cuban Cigars  Massive history there and yes, Paypal, Amazon, EBay, Google are all US based but just don’t ask them where they pay their tax  :pan
  • Haha, yeah I had no idea this was a thing! Well there ya go [emoji14]
  • That goes back to the time of President Kennedy Look up the Bay Of Pigs incident for answers I believe that at least half of Cuba’s island population is living in Miami Originally they fled with the expelled Americans during that time and have grown in numbers since Ironically Cuba has the most classic American cars driving all over the island Those older cars just never die KK

Yep, I was aware of that, but I also thought that was well-and-truly past!
