After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
the guy is a total tool! first he's keeping his beans in an open packet in the cupboard, then he flushes his portafilter with water immediately prior to making the coffee (and doesn't wipe it out) - ensuring that the grind will break up when the coffee's extracted, then he doesn't even bother to tamp, and he leaves the grinder running while he's making the coffee - and to top it off he pours the coffee into a cold cup which he then proceeds to spill the stuff everywhere! One word: Total tool! (I know, that's 2 words) ACG
Can't believe he had the balls to blame the slow coffee pour on his machine. I don't like to wash the portafilter beforehand - I prefer just to knock it out and wipe with tea-towel - not sure what the norm was in the industry as many seam to rince the portafilta beforehand. I'll stick to my method as it seems to work and I like having the seasoned basket. Little bit grumpy at work currently. Forced to adjust my tamping as the the blades on the grinder are blunt as... bloody complained enough times...
The only problem with rinsing the portafilter is that water can still gather under the basket, and break up the grind when it comes into contact with the coffee! We have 3 grinders at my work, one for decaf, one for espresso, and one for latte based coffees, so in theory at least there should be no 'down time' between extractions and if one grinder is on the blink, at least we always have another to fall back on! Cheers, Pat
