How did you get your start?

Coffee has always been more of a interest for me, but i would like it to be my profession, however looking at the jobs section i am a little disappointed, every single ad i saw asked for an experienced barista. Now, i understand that with the demands of most cafes, coffee bars, they do not have the time to train somebody but if everybody is looking for experienced people, then where does that leave people like me?
I feel that i have a better understanding than most average joes out there as to how to make a good coffee, mainly through reading, listening, and getting behind the machine for a few hours, but what they are looking for is industry experience, which i sorely lack.

So how did any of you start out if they are all looking for experienced people?

well I believe it is important to contact cafes who take their coffee more than seriously these places mostly concern themselves with passionate people, for the skills are picked up through time It is important to make the distinction between jobs that ask for people to make them money and people who make coffee. Be sure to contact cafes that take pride and deliver in each cup. you should visit prospective cafes and see if they are up to your standards if you show your passion they will take you seriously.
