Mazzer Mini - Impossible to find

yeah as title suggests impossible to find in a coffee equipment shop in sydney for under $650
inflated price and making 300 dollars profit from the store owners is really that necessary?

Hi Neonphyter, your question and the frustration you obviously feel is quite valid from a consumer point of view but maybe I can shed some light on it from an industry point of view instead. Firstly, the grinder you mention is undoubtedly a very good grinder but for home use (if that is what it is for) it does not offer anything more than some far cheaper grinders offer. The STANDARD OF GRIND in this grinder is realistically no better for example, than the standard of grind of the Saeco 2002 grinder. The standard of build, aesthetics and ergonomics are of course another matter... If you wish to purchase equipment pitched into the high end of the market then you have to be prepared to pay the price. A Mazzer Mini has the standard of build of a commercial quality grinder. As such the cost of build is commensurate with that of a commercial quality grinder, in which case the price you have quoted is quite fair...especially when you consider that production runs of actual commercial grinders are likely to be much larger and therefore more cost effective, than that of a production run of the Mini. Items where production runs are smaller, cost more and sell for more, because there is far less turnover of units in a given period of time. The commercial grinders imported into Australia by my company are actually built by Mazzer but are not badged as such and have different bodies. No matter. They come from the Mazzer factory and are expensive to import when you consider the invoice price PLUS the cost of import (landing cost). Depending on the exchange rate at any given time and / or the size of the consignment (and therefore the landing cost divided over the total number of units), our grinders sometimes land at a cost not much less than what you have stated, and they still have to be resold at a profit! Incidentally we have one only small doser grinder similar to the MM left in stock, in a totally different body, and it landed at an equivalent cost to the larger models. Yes they are expensive but if you want the merc, you have to pay for it. Ergo, things are not always as they seem at first glance. Hope this helps, FC.

yeah i want the merc, because for extra hundred dollars or so, id rather have the best and not fix it all the time. the grinder in which you mentioned, have you got pictures? or details of it? im interested, but also i will still keep on searching the mini. thank you.. if you would like to give me an email at [email protected] thank you

I sympathise in your lust for quality... And there is no question in my mind that the Mazzer Mini is well worth the investment. You may be interested to know that there is a non-profit, informal, all-things-coffee group that is sourcing all kinds of coffee related stuff. Just took a look at the link above, read the last couple of messages, found reference **over there** to this topic in this Forum, and note that a clarification is required: Regarding a paragraph from my post above: "...it does not offer anything more than some far cheaper grinders offer. The standard of build, aesthetics and ergonomics are of course another matter...   Readers please note that the above quite clearly reads and means...it does not offer anything more than ***SOME*** far cheapers grinders offer in terms of grind quality (and an appropriate example is given)... I did not say the MM is no better than ALL cheaper grinders (in the grind department), and I certainly would never have said this, especially in comparison to the domestic, conical LUX grinder or any of the other domestic conical grinders commonly available in this market (...that could possibly be the subject of another topic). It would  be really helpful to the viewers & participants in this Forum, if silent watchers from others forums, cared to reply about topics read IN this Forum, IN this Forum, instead of in other forums, where no one in this Forum, would get the benefit of further discussion!!!!!!
