Is coffee-making rocket science?

Hi guys - there are several coffee-related sites in Australia, including ourselves and CoffeeSnobs (for home roasters) and the Australasian part of Coffeegeek, and i'd like to encourage more interaction between the three.

As it happens, there's a pretty interesting discussion (that i initiated) on Coffeegeek at the moment - is coffee-making rocket science?

Well I hope it is since I study Aerospace Engineering at uni, so that means the more I study the better my coffee will get! :D

For the answer to this question you need only look to another topic of discussion in this forum, in the "machines/technical" section. The topic is called "Bar pressure..." or somew such thing, started in the last few days. Check the gem written by new Forum member Ryan, this morning it's the second last post ion the thread. He says words to the effect of there being a hell of a lot of coffee (or is it coffee machine) "experts" in cyberland, most of whom dont seem to have any experience. Did I enterpret that correctly, or have I just misinterpreted purposely to justify my own feelings on the subject? If so, guess I must just be doing what all the coffee experts living inside my computer are doing ;D On ya Ryan! G.

Pretty sure it's part art, part science, and part bullshit - at least from my experience Oh and while we're on the subject of keyboard warriors - at last count Ive made over 1000,000 cups of coffee in a commercial environment - and that's not including home use - how do you like them apples !
