After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Hacked?

edited January 1970 in Have your say
I noticed a little bit ago that the forum had been hacked?  What's all that about?

Comments

  • Ummm, someone hacked it? Maybe the top dogs at Lavazza finally found that thread about their crema beans and decided to shut it all down  8)
  • Quoted from the hacking message: "I'm not a malicious hacker, but if you continue to bash Lavazza for their super crema beans then I'm going to have to take further action." Zero Cool - "Hack the planet!" (that was the dumbest movie I've ever seen in my life)
  • Great soundtrack though!

wow ... i missed it all.
  • I noticed it around 1 or so.  All the titles in each section were changed. Does this have anything to do with the cartoons?
  • The poor kid, all that stale robusta must have gone to his head ;D
  • Repeat offender...Here we go again.
  • Well, why doesn't the hacker just come out and speak his mind - as long as we can respectfully listen to him. But in the end, someone's like for something is none of our business, just like our dislike for lavazza is a personal thing, based on our experience. (that is, until they start hacking websites, trying to force us to be nice to something we don't like.) My mum likes the way that stale bread (not moldy, just not fresh) tastes when it's toasted, who am I to complain? To the hacker: sorry if you've been offended. Most people here like fresh coffee, because we've all drunk supermarket coffee at some stage, we probably all started there. But most of us have had the opportunity to try something fresh, roasted locally, and we were blown away by the sweetness, complexity, the flavour. To us and our taste buds, it was superior to any coffee we'd ever had before. It's like when I ate at a really fancy restaurant for the first time. I used to think macca's served awesome food, and some of it is pretty tasty (there's nothing like a double quarter pounder, IMHO ... dripping with fat ... mmmmmm). But the way a highly skilled chef prepares your meal, the way a sommelier selects the perfect wine to partner with your food ... it makes you reailse that macca's is what it is, which is not a fancy restaurant. Maybe you like Lavazza, and you don't like to hear it being bashed. You don't have to visit this site, you could find a forum that likes Lavazza, or start your own (you're obviously talented at this computer stuff). Then again, if you work for Lavazza, then you're only making our dislike for your company stronger.
  • Well said nunu! It's a bit like a burglar breaking into your home just to prove you have a security flaw (the window was unlocked). :D
  • Msg to hacker Hi there - thanks for letting us know about this; what you probably don't realise is that we're a very small voluntary site - this means that we don't have anyone employed as a full time admin - it's just something that I do in my spare time!     Anyway, thanks for letting us know, and I'll contact the guys who host our website to ask them to look into it.     Ashley [ADMIN]
  • To admin: Finally, thats what I wanted to hear. To nunu: I do not apreciate your insults toward me, and the way you took my message and altered it to show everyone false information. Dont be surpised if weird things start to happen to your account.
  • Not malicious indeed. Seriously mate, grow up and buy a sense of humour.   You came and disturbed us, violated our discussion forum.  When I or others made light of your less than legal doings, you have the gall to make threats?  How childish, I'm glad to know the youth of America have such high standards.  I can sleep well at night now knowing you are what stock the future leaders of America come from. Give me your address, I'll be sure to look you up for a cup of coffee when I come back home to America.
  • Hi guys - we should have no more problems with our hacker, as we've now upgraded to new software that will block the 'hole' that he was exploiting. I decided to treat our hacker with some respect, for two reasons - firstly because he must have been reasonably clever to get in (and it may have just have been that he was doing it for the challenge) -  after all, he did state that he was 'not malicious' - and secondly, because if he could get in and operate freely, then there was no point in antagonising him. It turned out that he may not have been that clever after all - it seems he was simply exploiting a known problem in the software, which the new version has fixed. Let me know if you have any suggestions with dealing with a similar problem in the future, but as i said, my web hosts are pretty confident there should be no further problems. -A
  • Good to see that we've now got updated software. I don't really know what was so special about being able to hack a voluntary discussion forum such as this, but thanks go to the hacker for making our lives miserable for a considerable amount of time. Maybe if he knew something about coffee, he might have added something to the discussion.  You'd think some people would have a little sense of humour, but this hacker obviously didn't. I apologise to everyone here for antagonising him a bit, but I think he deserved to be.  I also apologise for the remarks about homosexuality that he made using my username.  Honestly, the world needs to be rid of homophobes and become just a little more tolerant of others.
  • Dont be surpised if weird things start to happen to your account.
Nunu, Maybe 'the hacker' was right, you're showing up as a newbie with 1 post in the left hand column.  Cue the 'twilight zone' music. Steve.
  • I decided to delete myself, so the antagonist's account wouldn't be used to post senseless drivel. Now I am back to posting senseless drivel in my own words. Besides, I feel like I've been reborn!  :P
  • Not so clever after all? Note the little message I left for you under the Have Your Say forum.
  • well mr hacker , I do not consider you clever. If you were you would be having a go at microsoft or nasa and not a small forum in Australia.  Get some class
  • Well I\'ve made viruses that attack the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Does that count as going after Microsoft?
  • No, that counts as going after all the people who use Windows as their OS. All it achieves is additional hassle to the end user. Microsoft just have another reason to increase the cost of using their product. I admire what you are trying to do, but I don't think causing problems for your average consumer who also hates having to bend for corporations is the right way to go about it. Attack the source!!!
