After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Brisbane Floods - Impacts still being felt.

Sort of a catchy heading ;)

The $ for a bunch of those funny yellow fruit that some call bananas, has been all over the place post the floods.

In addition lots of clean up still under way.

I went to the shed to get a 6mth old EM6910 that I had to donate to a charity for their kitchen - Staff and inmates are assisting with flood clean up and they only have instant on hand.

WHAT is that !!!!!!  Err I was sure I had 4 Banana Trees with bunches at different stages, but I can only spot 3 large bunches...

On a closer inspection, some bright spark has lopped of a bunch and did it as high up as possible, so as to make it less obvious  >:( >:( >:(

If they needed a hand or were so desperate, if they asked they could have had (Still green).

However there are reports of people selling direct to small shops for cash and that is theft and exploitation.

Any way.... EM6910 being packed and to be delivered on Easter Sunday.  Fresh coffee and Choc for some people that often do it hardest over hols and those times that many get to spend with family.

    Given that you can buy 1/2 celery down here, I asked my greengrocer for 1/2 banana, the preference being the middle 1/2..Figured the price would be about the same as well. Only reasonable I reckon  ;)

    Nothing quite like a natural disaster to bring out the best in people, whilst also unfortunately bringing out the worst as well  >:(. I like the idea of a half banana, sort of like getting just the top half of a cup of coffee  ;D.

    And lady finger bananas are generally more expensive Ohh and I should add the tree needs to be felled as Bananas only have one crop The suckers will grow to a large tree and produce there own bunch I know this because my wife's family were banana farmers in Northern NSW KK

    I remember when we lived up in Townsville, before Pete joined up, that we had a HUGE Bowen Mango tree in our back yard that fruited beautifully every year.  Our Labrador used to get mango sores, but that's another story... One year we had a group of Asians come knocking and asked if they could pick the mangos to sell.  We said no, it wasn't our tree, and if they wanted to pick them, they would have to check with the Real Estate Agents, who would check with the landlords, and see if they minded. Came home a couple of days later and the tree was bare.  Didn't even leave me enough to eat myself... :( Checked with the Real Estate and the Owners and permission had not been sought, nor given. Funnily enough, it was about 2 weeks later, that we got broken into...twice.  The first time to take the small stuff and make an inventory, and the second time a week later to take the big stuff (and the day before the Landlords had scheduled a Security Screen Company to come and make the house secure!) Also, funnily enough, all this happened 3, 4 and 5 weeks respectively after the floods went through Townsville on 1999. Grrrr....I think I was more upset about the Mangos, though - at least I got new for old on the househouse stuff, but had to buy my mangos that year! Happy Easter All... Cheers Di
