After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Some will want to be first cab off the rank I am sure regardless of anything written or suggested anywhere so it would make sense to take orders. If someone I knew was looking at one specifically I would be going with the wait a month or two option regardless of the product or the company. First production runs do carry a slight additional risks. Not a customer of Matts either just my thoughts on first run appliances.
I honestly can't see what is unusual about it, a lot of companies do pre-orders. A company needs to gauge the response to make sure that they can cater for demand, imagine only ordering five and when the product is released you have 20 orders. We all know what happens when Apple releases a product, stores make out that they can only order a certain amount which means that it looks like there is a higher demand than there really is as the line is 'oh they are so popular we sold out'. Obviously I'm not saying that the above is what stores are doing with the BDB but a good business makes sure that they can at least come close to catering for demand.
I understand. it just sounded strange that they tell you not to buy their offer. I will probably buy this machine. My silvia is too slow when I have friends over.
I don't know Matt personally so this is just a personal opinion from what I've seen of him through the forums. I feel that Matt wants people to be completely happy with anything they purchase from E61 and if this means telling them his honest opinion then he will. As with anything that first comes out. you expect problems, I have my fingers crossed that there won't be. When people find out about problems the nay sayers will come out in force saying 'I told you so', the problem might be something really really simple to fix but it won't stop the negativity and it 'might' turn people away from a purchase that would actually suit them. If I'm out of line with the above someone let me know. It's just how I feel at present about what people have been saying elsewhere and the responses from people that should know better. The other thing I will say is before you commit to buying anything anywhere make sure you know what you are getting for how much ;D
Hi Matt If the road-test machine is coming up to Queensland, I'd love to have a play for a week or so and be able to give my perspective as a previous owner of a Sunbeam 6910, Maver Marte E61, Lelit and now NS Musica. You know where I live... Cheers Di
Have they got an official date for this to be released to the public yet? Maybe we could have a gathering is SE Qld and play with it? I would love to check it out and I imagine others would too.
Latest ETA seems to be end July or beginning August. As always, subject to change. You can bet it will be delayed if there are production probs - after all the build up, they will be extra careful to make sure the initial shipments are up to spec and I'm guessing at 100% testing prior to leaving the factory.
Due to splitting the post below into a discussion on Breville Kettles, just reposted Double Ristrettos post as it is relevant to both topics Tim Quote from: beanflying on May 28, 2011, 05:24:00 PM As we are adults here and don't mind talking about good and bad all will be revealed on the reliability front over the first 6 months. If that goes well then it will set a new benchmark in terms of $$ for home espresso machines. To me it will all be about materials/build quality, as some previoius posts have mentioned... I know it's not completely relevant but just bought a breville [quiet] electric kettle... instructions said completely fill it & boil it once to get rid of taste/residues, but after filling boiling then emptying for a week, still had an awful taste in boiled water & have had to return to retailer - can only put it down to materials used in construction - this is the bit I'm worried about. dR
Hmm, not sure which thread this question should really be in. Mods, feel free to move if necessary. Warranty support of the BDB seems to be dealt with directly by breville, including provision of pre paid courier back to them. This would make it easier to sell through the internet and box shifters, as access to a bricks and mortar store is not necessary. Is it just the dual boiler that has warranty handled this way, or are Breville changing warranty processes for other products?
Who did you buy it from coffeedoode? You can name them on Crema, the sponsorship isn't as restricted as elsewhere. I agree BF, but it won't be for everyone. I personally think it's just going to be another option, but it's not going to see the end of the Silvia/Lelit single boiler style machines, or even the middle of the road HX machine. Some folk will favour the known brands & machines and build/materials, others will see a bargain in the BDB in what it acheives at a price. I would like to see one if the flesh because it looks pretty big in some of the photos I've seen and size seems to be a big concern for quite a few people. I know I got kicked out the kitchen and now have a seaparte bench to play on.
Regardless of whether people still choose to buy from specialist stores, the warranty is pretty different to the standard of return to where you bought it, or send to a service centre at your cost. Just wondering if this is a one off, or if those with other Breville appliances have the same sort of warranty. Doode - I didn't think anyone could demo this right now, until production units start shipping. Did you get to try one of the pre-production models while they were out? Lacehim, I saw one at cafebiz, yes, they are big for this class of machine, bigger than I expected.

Don't know about Breville specifically but regardless of product in this country sellers have statutory obligations to meet weather shop front or web based. Back to base warranty makes sense as very few of the actual sellers of the Breville are authorised service centres and indeed not qualified to work on an electrical appliance anyway. More and more techie goods seem to be going B2B for example Hardly Normal doesn't fix PC's. Living in the bush after sales service for me on a lot of what I buy is done by phone or email regardless so net only or net/shop makes little difference. That said a hands on demo and hands on backup is a great thing if available.
Hi thanks Bf, although fyi I wasn't interested in having a discussion on kettles at all - simply making the point [in relation to the new dual boiler machine] that 'there are things that are made in China' and 'there are things that are made in China' - just hoping it's the latter [or was that the former ]... dR
All good With more manual brewing taking place a kettle thread is not a bad thing. Toaster thread to follow Out of interest no one had picked up a taint issue with the pre production models of the Breville which I am sure will already contain a lot of the production plastics and parts.
When were you able to play with the BDB, I thought he said 'over there' a while ago that they had to give it back and that they will have one to play with for tomorrow???
Oh maybe he didn't give them back to Breville after all, pity he didn't tell everyone he still had them, I've been telling people that no one has one to try at present, oh well.
I recently came into some information about the Breville Dual Boiler that has since disappeared into the internets nether regions. Just reposting a summary here to educate, inform and possibly entertain... Early adopters of this product clearly want to be among the first to own it. I will keep it concise to limit any off topic discussion The major appliance stores will not be getting stocks until after some of the specialist coffee retailers who have already signed up as resellers. Even though production models do not seem to be shipping yet, several retailers are accepting pre orders and are offering different package deals. I have been told that a Breville account rep confirmed the specialist resellers for this product should be getting stock at the same time. At the time of writing, I know of one crema sponsor that is accepting pre-orders, that may of course change.
Wonder if the 2.4 litre water reservoir of the Breville may prove to be its Achilles heel, even the Silvia has a 2.5 litre tank and the Bezzera Domus Galatea 4 litre ???
Unless you are making long blacks or teas from it 2.4 should get you nearly 20 doubles with steamed milk. So for most homes it is only a daily fill I guess. If you have easy access to the machine it is a very quick fill as the tank slides right out. Either that or the top fill works providing you keep looking at the sight glass ::)
I emailed and they said breville have not picked the two machines they loned them that's why they still have them. It sounds right to me not suss. I can't find anything where breville said xmas and have been told it will be ready in august.
whats a sprooker. do you mean a seller. this topic is from a seller and they are for sale on there website but he says here not to buy them. i am happy with my seller and i trust them
I am at best a cautious person The posts that I have made on this machine can be counted on one hand I wont bag or sprook a product that is not in the marketplace Real objective reviews are generality from users, both novice & seasoned I dont like reporters/reviewers that just copy and paste the advertised company releases as if its gospel If the product is good it will stand the test of time May I also just mention another product released in Nov 1957 with much fan-fair & over-exuberant advertising that it failed Unfortunately not what the public was expecting as the hype did not match the end result That my friends was the Ford Edsel Something to ponder KK
