After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

gaggia coffee delux

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
ok a friend has asked me to look at this machine for them as its stopped working - the pump engages for the hot water (through the steam wand), and for the steam itself, but water wont run through the group head

I've taken off the shower screen and the cylinder that it attaches too and given them a good clean, and I noticed quite a bit of scale build up 0- so I'm guessing its either a blocked water line, or a blocked solenoid valve, or both - but not too sure about where to go from here

Ideas anyone?

  • Not a bad looking machine it's got a boiler I'm guessing 200ml but it looks like aluminium construction, certainly from the outside at least, although in theory it could be lined with another material Having said that the build-up of scale around the shower screen would suggest aluminum boiler construction Still the sizable (for the price point that is) boiler puts the machine theoretically on par with the Rancilio Silvia - certainly in terms of specs, and the steam power is pretty decent I look forward to getting it running and putting it through its paces, to see if it can pull some decent shots! And the outcome was ?
blocked water line feeding the shower screen - too much build up of scale from the aluminium boiler - fixed with a pipe cleaner and high pressure water blasting, followed by a thorough descale!
  • Oh bother  - somewhere along the way the plastic frothing attachment and the plastic cover for the water tank have gone missing and I need to replace them both - preferably on the cheap - ideas anybody?
  • Could try a forums with a wtb request or try eBay for a broken machine for parts.  Scour the streets during bulk collection week.

Is it the same a Breville Cafe Crema My sister in law has given me one I need to check if its on there tomorrow You can have it if you like as I want to pass the whole machine to someone KK
  • Not sure if it's the same or not - would be good if it was. Im keeping an eye on the bay of evil just in case but I'd be happy to take the breville off your hands - if you want to quote me for postage I'll fix you up for that - I'm in West Preston, Vic
  • hi breville parts wont fit the gaggia
  • Hi Guys, i've managed to source a replacement steam wand frother attachment for the above machine, now I just need a lid for the water tank, which I believe is comparable to the Gaggias Classic Anyone got a 'spare' lying around? Cheers, Pat
  • Don't have a spare tank cover, but it would be easy enough to make one out of a bit of acrylic and use an offcut as a handle (or buy a screw on handle from bunnings. If anyone has a spare metal cup warming tray for a gaggia classic, I am in need of one.
