After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Its centrals week at my place. Working on the GS this morning I roasted Brazil Cachoeira de Grama 300g Peru de selva 300g Colombia Andes Santa Rita 300g I've had some great centrals this year, especially Colombians
500gms of Gayo mountain I scored as a freebie.... And, my last 1kg of Ghimbi. The weather here in Adelaide is getting sunnier and warmer, so I might do some more of the swap club Harfusa for cold brewing.
On Thursday I did a roast for another Crema Member 720 gr of a PNG bean that the name escapes me Pulled and cooled just on SC Today Completed a late afternoon Roast on the KKTO Yes I was also watching the NRL final ::) 700 Grams of Ethiopian Harraar From Sponsor mycuppa Pulled just on second crack and cooled KK
And me too. Another kg of Jeffs famous Harrar... Much to his horror, I plan on drinking it when it matures at about 30mins post roast... :o :P :P :P :P And also a kg of wee wee...
in my roaster today:- 300g Tanzanian Uru--pulled roast near end of RFC--9min30 300g Ethiopian Yirg Special Prep also near end of RFC--9mins both roasts are for pourover and Clever Dripper brewing
Sunday is the best day of the week (apologies if I've offended any religious folks). What's even better about today is that it's too wet to mow the lawn and it's a sort of crappy Melbourne I-can't-make-up-my-min-weather sort of day. Another perfect day to be stuck inside roasting. Today's agenda- ......... Honduras and Guat COE Sidamo - the Emporer Haile Selassie Stunning Lake Tawar Rwanda Inzovu Secret Men's Business PNG RFA Indian Elk Hill Estate A Natural - better than the Tiger ! Columbian Equidad FTO Bolivia Montana Verde FTO (new crop just arrived last week) Uganda Bugisu (new crop - super fat & funky) Honduras Minas De Oro 300+ kg of blends some decaf (poor souls)

Alright Jeff, I'll concede that your volume is a little more than me and my Bwhmor. Today I am roasting 400g of Nicaraguan RFA SHG La Bastilla. To compete with Jeff I may fire up the KKTO, all the poppers and redirect the ol BBQ roaster and roast all my beans. I'll be short of his 300kg by about 250kg so I'll have to scrounge the neighborhood for seed, gum nuts and other flora... I suspect the cupping of my roasts may be 'coffee to die for!' :o :D

Never, ever thought I'd say it.........but I've roasted so much this week I'm actually quite sick of roasting.........cracking open the vac-pack COE's does create a bit of excitement though....just like Xmas morning............hopefully one can maintain enthusiasm for the following 10 hours.
Gave this a go again on the KKTO 750 Grams of Ethiopian Harraar From Sponsor mycuppa Went through it visually and took out a couple of stones and small bits of timber pre roast The reason I am roasting this bean back to back is that the last roast is now over 10 days post roast and tasting wonderful I may add better than wonderful yummmmmmmmmy KK
1kg Harrar Star double sort. Almost lost the lot with a reactor meltdown.... :o The trusty pool pipe on the cooler, which has served me faithfully for many a roast, decided to melt with half a kilo of beans stuck inside.... Anyway, after a quick amputation, it's shorter now by a metre or so and hopefully will be ok. After all the fuss, I then did 850gm of Monsoon Malabar.
Today I roasted some beans that were gifted to me Vintage beans from 2006/2007 as far as I can ascertain Called Red Sea Blend from CS Once inspected I saw that they were very very dehydrated I got them as an experiment to re-hydrate Over 2 to 3 months I re-hydrated them slowly Method Place in a double steamer pot system Beans in steamer insert over filtered water in the lower pot They were left in the open weather outside With the occasional spritz & stir every few days Once re-hydrated they were then left/stored again in the cotton bag for many weeks to normalize It was approx 700 grams I will see how they go in a few days after a degas KK
KK, will be very interested to see how the Red Sea blend works out. I've often roasted beans 2+ years old without a problem, but as it happens RSB (Feb 07) is the only one where I've thrown some out. I found some early last year and decided the "mouldy" aroma was a bit much. Not to mention the severely dehydrated and highly discoloured appearance. With some regret I must say, it was magnificent in 07. ANyway, back on topic, what did I roast this week? 180g each of Tanzania (yesterday) and Yirg (today). In the baby roaster, as we are house sitting this weekend and the Quest was a bit much to bring along. Gas ran out on yesterday's batch, luckily just before the expected finishing time, and they chew and look pretty good, so should work.

As I noted in my post, In this experiment it has taken months to rehydrate these beans and I am also keen to find out how it all turned out In a few days they will be ready to drink Report will follow :lamp: KK
A nice balmy Adelaide evening & the first roast since a major cooler meltdown last time. I am now the proud owner of a top of the line $40 Homelite shop vac from Bunnings. It's made a huge difference and now no more beans coated in melted pool pipe... Also, back to back cooling is no longer an issue. The MM was so good I did another kilo and bagged it up. Have to think two weeks ahead with that stuff. Next was a kilo of Yirg Harfusa - this lot will wait a week then be cold brewed, filtered and matured in the fridge for a while. It's great as an iced coffee :P :P And lastly, a kilo of Sulawesi Toarco Jaya. I wasn't all that impressed with this one last time, but will let it rest 14 days this time before opening the bag. Enough work for one night, and now off for another MM....
I've just done a roast of ghimbi for solo, hopefully it will taste ok Oh no reflection on the type of photos the phone can take, it's all about the user :D
Here is my roast of the Ethiopian Ghimbi shape_shifter sent me. This was my first attempt. Despites rumours to the contrary, I did not burn anything. 70g went into my popcorn roaster. A little bit of oil on some beans when pulled, some beans have chips on them from explosions.
These are my last 3 home roasts Green bean blend of 300 gr - Monsooned Malabar 150 gr - PNG Kinjibi 150 gr - Bolovia Caravani Organic Green bean blend of 300 gr - Brazil Alterosa RFA 150 gr - bolivia Caravani Organic 150 gr - PNG Kinjibi And today 600 gr - Ethiopian Harra KK
Since becoming a roaster and reading a fair bit about blends and blending, I've noticed that quite a few blends have a minor percentages of Robusta included. So I decided to get my hands on some, Indian Monsoon Robusta Parchment R (don't know what the R stands for). I roasted some of this and decided to have a short black using this bean and nothing else. My God, is that in your face or what!! Is that why small amounts are used in blends? One thing I must say, it had a beautiful Crema. Look at the large amount of chaff that has not been removed during the roasting process. This photograph was taken in full sun and even though it looks like a very uneven roast, it looks almost perfect to the natural eye.
They look great Divey. Where did you get em? I bet Shape Shifter would love a big old bathch of this as a present. yesterday I did 500g of Indonesian Java Kalistat. I let these coast into RSC and pulled them a bit later than usual. A very even roast and the bouquet 24hrs on is very pungent. Can't wait! Also did 300g of Brazil Daterra Opus 1. This will go on my must have list when ordering. Thank you CH and Bean Green!
Just roasted 500g of Rwanda Gisenyi (the last of this bean that I have) for a cold soak of 5L liquid. Also roasted 500g of Bolivian from Mycuppa (almost finished it *cry*) for my espresso for the week (might last a bit longer with me drinking all these iced coffees!)

Will I get into strife if I tell you Danes will sell you green beans at very competitive prices. 8)

Nice one! Postage to Briz would be the deal breaker for us given that Brisbane suppliers carry a great range of choice but it's worth noting... Thanks. Ive been a bit naughty and cracked open the Java for a double shot piccolo. I swear I'm drinking fruit n nut chocolate. Yum! This is a seriously good bean and I'll be good and eek it out over the next three weeks.
