After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before but I had a quick check and come up short...

Looking for advice or thoughts on a good timer for the coffee machine

Please tell me they're all basically the same

Sorry if you thought this was another post against the mini-e's analogue timer!!

    I have had one of these combined timer/thermometer units for a few years now. Magnetic base and removable thermocouple when not needed. I do note Clubchef seem to have dropped them from their site but similar ones are around. It sits on the side of the grinder normally and the thermometer has been used for quick roasting checking fridge temps and lots of other stuff. ?action=dlattach;attach=101;image

    Thanks BF I'll look into it, looks versatile Great shop .... I've bought before from Club Chef here in Northcote (Melb) but never thought to check them out for timers....I had Bunnings in my head

    Errr did I miss something?  The mini-e is awesome isn't it??? 64mm burrs (same as an SJ) in a smaller body with electronic dosing.  A dream grinder surely?? I don't use a timer because my coffee area in the kitchen is only 1200mm of a 2700mm tas oak bench  :P To save on the bench space I just use my phone timer or if I'm in a Facebook sort of mood, I use the metronome at crotchet=60 and sing Twinkle Twinkle slowly, stopping on the word LIKE!     Hi Brett Nah the timer I'm looking for is for the coffee machine not the grinder I like the mini-e....the timer...well, it  is what it is, but I find it a bit amusing how much schtick it gets from a few in other places...I guess it's not a K3T :stir Seeya

    Oops wrong model.... mine is the slow cooker version which extracts the coffee over 25-35 hours.  :P Perhaps the mini-e suffers from negativity from sellers who are not the primary importer!  I've always thought the K3t was sh!t with its collar movement and insecurities.  There ive said it... Bring on the haters  :stir. I actually could have had one cheaper than a Rocky due to 'clearance' stock but preferred to stick with old faithful.  8)  The Internet is a wonderful place to build up or denigrate perfectly good products based on financial/business affiliations.  Bottom line and margin drives too much opinion in some corners of the web... I love Crema!  :thumb:

    I actually want this post to stay focussed on Timers because I'm still looking for suggestions. but....can't help myself @Brett H - so it's not only me that's seeing more of this lately. I used the K3T in a more metaphorical sense because it will then be a new grinder (or machine) that gets propped up once that K3T crate is successfully flogged. Me speakem more on this forum because I don't like having that knawing away at the back of my mind each time I post (thinking are they saying that just because they want me to buy this instead?).  :tearhair:

Temperature is measured consistently, but not calibrated -out by approx 5 degrees. I rarely use it, but it is good for deep frying and making macarons. Timing is accurate, but I normally just look at the second hand on my watch. I find that easier than pushing extra buttons. The timer I use for switching the machine on in the morning is a simple analogue one from bunnings

    Thanks....looks like the lawn misses out again this weekend, a simple visit to Bunnings has been known to turn into hours...and this research is far too critical not to give it the attention it demands....now...that definitely sounds good in my mind, but somehow it's going to lose signal strength and conviction when I speak to you know who....I just know it! :doh: As far as shot timing, yes I uses my watch too.....glancing down at my watch has become second nature as soon as the lever goes up

    Actually it may not have been bunnings, might have been home hardware. Same units though, came in pack of two for small change. Big dial and press down the little plastic fingers for the times you want 'on'. The electronic ones can lose settings if you lose power, the simple ones just start up where they left off if a power cut.
