After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

BDB OPV adjust.

Must have a chat to some re what they have found.

Two turns anti-clockwise and bang on 9.75 / 10 bar...  Let here warm up and a test or two and it's in the ball park.

A quick and dirty grinder adjust and no PF warm up and a dose that was just touching the shower screen.

Shot was nice and steady and I stopped at just over 30sec.  A tad bitter but nothing outstandingly bad  ;D


Also put the home made scace on the system and with a 5 min warm up and run a manual shot for 20sec...  Temp I was getting was about 90C while the system was set to 92C.  Allowing for some minor calibration and other errors. My guess is that this unit is reading a tad high, but nothing to be concerned about.

Josh will just need to balance the cup with a minor tweak of the grind and dose and MAYBE up 1C.

Change one thing at a time and the cup is what is important.

    Alrighty - first things first, thankyou again AM for your assistance and tutelage, First use was this morning's coffee. Bang on 9Bar throughout the pour, pretty solid too throughout.  Sounds like the pump is working harder or at least differently - it makes more noise than when it was extracting at 13bar. Grind ended up being 3 clicks coarser on the Smart Grinder. Taste in the cup - good. Not great as yet, but good. Comparing to the 13Bar - less acid, but perhaps less body. Didn't try it as espresso, but as full fat flat white this morning and it didn't cut through the milk as at 13Bar. Will try again tonight when I have more time to muck around with the grind. I probably need to give it a weeks worth of use before making proper comment as to the change made. AM - did you look at that Blank and it's a red timber is it? I believed it was Gum, but if it's Red Gum then you might have yourself some very nice handles. I'd like to source some Black Bean or even some dark Walnut to turn into a handle for a ridged naked in the future...

    Timber wise - I'll probably look out for something nice at the Brisbane timber and working with wood show. FYI - It's in May, 18-20. Back to the BDB. Did a shot straight into warm shot glass - nice crema, taste was nothing special but not too much acid, but dibella beans. 30sec and I cut the double shot off due to blonding. Not able to achieve the honey like thicker pour, but never have been thus far. Going to play around with the infusion times and infusion pressure - currently trying lower pressure longer time (11s). See how it goes with these beans.

    Ahh results. With the 11 second slightly lower pressure preinfusion. Amazing that this machine can adjust these things. As AM and I were talking about - pity they don't allow for steam pressure and or temperature adjustment also. Taking that a step further - why not an adjustable OPV? Sweet coffee, slight acidity that holds up in fat milk, still no honey like pour, but a nice slow 60 sec till blonding. Nice firm puck, slightly brittle, very dry. Bounced off the 9.75 OPV level during the initial stages of the pour, then settled in at about 9.5ish. Happy with those results.  :thumb: Still a little concerned at the sound the pump is making now. Can anyone else who have adjusted the OPV make comment about the noise the machine makes pre and post change?

    Could the change on noise be one of the pipes rubbing or vibrating now you've had the case off and on?  Not unusual to disturb water lines changing the sound of your machine.

    I have notice the BZ makes a different sound when I pull a tight shot. I'd say its just a bit a resonance in the pipe work from the opv bumping off which it wasn't doing before

    I experienced a noise level increase post adjustment and it's not that there is extra noise from vibrating fittings/hoses but more like louder noise. Worth it in the cup though  :thumb:

    I agree it's not hoses or fittings making the noise, but the pump working 'differently'. I'm sure AM wouldn't have let me leave his place without the fittings and hoses being correct. It's not an issue, but I might try and source some of that sound deadening paper - not sure it works, but probably worth a try. AM I may need to visit you again in July when I get around to all of this!
