After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

As mentioned in another thread, I had my BZ09 in for minor repairs yesterday at Bezzera.

One of the nice little under-the-hood features of this machine is that it has a clearly marked brew-temp dial easily accessible, which was set to 92

    Just double check with Chris as he may have said 86 deg  and meant to say 96 deg And is that the boiler or the electric heated head ? Anyhow you can check with a thermocouple the water temp in a cup with a flush It wont give you a precise reading at the brew head but its close enough to know if it 86 deg or other KK

    It's the boiler - the Joseph re-set the brew temp dial. I really should get a thermocouple at some point.

    Thing is, it may say 86 on the dial but youll only know with a scace type thermocouple.  Old Cookies trick is if it's uncomffortable to hold your fingers under there 60-70. Burns 90-100.  Skin off: 100+.  Best bet is to either use someone else's fingers or just give Baratzi a ring.  :thumb:

    Baratzi in some ways are just like Apple. They've got a bling product that's pretty awesome (for the right user) and have great customer service. They also do things their own way. They like OPVs at 12 bar and their brew temperature at 86

    You have to know what those temperature settings mean without which its anyones guess  ;) I would tend to go with the importer's recommendation as they know their product. The only way you are ever going to know the diff between what each of the settings may result in, is to have 2 identical machines sitting next to each other, the only diff being those two settings. Then you cup the coffee from the same grinder and beans & operator through the two amchines, and see what you get. Otherwise, you will not know and need to rely on the importer for their recommendation. I doubt that fiddling with that setting will make any particular coffee "brighter". Hope that helps.

    Thanks Attilio, appreciate your always practical advice. I don't deal in absolutes, per se - even when mapping the temperature deadband of my machine, I knew I was mapping relative temps only, not the absolute - but that's all I wanted to know. I also agree that it's just as likely to be my perception that's off than the coffee. When I got the machine it was set to 91
