After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Been a busy couple of days this week on the Behmor as I was seriously concerned at the amount I was starting to chew by playing with my new toys..... This is what I have on stock roasted: 11/4 did a 300g batch of Costa Rica Iterbazu Estate (if I can read Brendan's writing ) 13/4 did a 300g batch of El Finca Carmen - been enjoying this one at work. 14/4 did a 300g batch of Kenya Gethumbwini peaberry & Rwanda Cyarumbo 15/4 did a 300g of Indian Elephant Hills Got a 350g stash of MM roasted on 25/3, so feel free if you think I should post roast blend any of these....... Jonty
This thread seems kinda busy right now. Best chip in 2 batches of 280g each four bean blend of equal parts Tiger Mt, Java Ijen, PNG Highlands, Malawi Nyika also 230g Mex Yeni Navan. That'll do for a few days. Next up a Guatemalan methinks. Then probably another Harrar/robusta for a little experiment
I did 2 lots of 70/30 Brazil Sweet/Harrar, I felt the Sweet needed a little more omph hopefully the Harrar will give it. I also took a video of the roaster process, I put it in the Projects section under my thread for my roaster.
I had to do a roast before I run out On the KKTO just now Beans form the KKTO shop 700 gr Colombian Supremo "BACHUE" These were roasted to just on second crack KK

It was picked by me because its easy to roast & it sells quite well But also very nice in the cup with or without milk I found it best to roast the Colombian Supremo "Bachue" to just on the onset of second crack KK
KK & others..... For some (I would say many) Colombians, there is a sweet-spot either side of 2nd crack, e.g. the spot you found and the spot just darker. I tend to put them in the earlier spot, but have had tremendous success with sublime rich caramel/honey on the darker side. In fact, the results on the darker have been stunning. Couple of points to note:- 1. As we have noted before, there are beans and there are beans. Colombians tend to be a softer bean so you need to pick whether the cell structure can handle the higher finish point without breaking down. I tend to see Excelso (smaller) beans being able to run further than the larger, puffier Supremo's - but it's horses for courses. 2. I've found the spot in the middle (between the 2 sweet spots) can give a very ordinary cup......so tread carefully.
Roasted in the KKTO 940g equal parts: Java Kalistat, PNG Ondu, Finca el Carmen and Mexican Finca Kassandra. Smells great fresh out of the roaster but I'll give it a week. :thumb:

Please let us know how this tastes, as the blend sounds divine.
One week on I've cracked this today and fluked the grind to give 60ml from the 18g VST basket at 92degC. Lots of chocolate and chicory with a really syrupy mouth feel. This one I reckon will only improve over the next two weeks. It has lived up to its promise and will go into the book. This is not so much of a Kapow but more of a Mmmmmmm... Yum!
So Alex the Builder, What beans are you roasting this week :stir
In the AM loaner HT I'm doing some peaberry, honduras coe, MM & some indo kuta - along with some Peru Ceja de Selva Estate, Not sure whether to blend them or drink as is. I am digging myself a hole though, in that I want to taste everything which is freaking the grinder out. Wild variations in grind between different beans + the freshness means I'm wasting a lot. Ah well, cost bugger all compared to buying browns
Tonight's roasting is 2 different roasts. One for a colleague (of which I'll take some) and one for just my curosity: Roast 1: 300g Colombian Supremo (from Di Bartoli) Roast 2 - After the wife liked Muscles Ka Pow Blend so much, thought I'd try something a bit "out there": 115g Peru Ceja de Selva 100g Ethiopian Harrar 60g Colombian Supremo 25g Indian Kaapi Royale Robusta
Why am I running out of beans so quickly Today on the KKTO I roasted 2 batches (Testing beans from the Barazi owned - KKTO shop) First batch roasted for Barazi to use in the shop for customers Its a blend of 400 gr - Colombian Supremo "BACHUE" 300 gr Costa Rica SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) Second Roast is for my home use 700 gr Costa Rica SHB (Strictly Hard Bean) KK
1kg of 'lucky dip' Yemen. Need some beans to take with me on a 4 week trip leaving tomorrow. Still been ridiculously busy with the new job but can see some light at the end of the tunnel once I get back. Will have to buy a box of decent 500gm bags when I get to NZ. The only bags I've managed to find over here don't even have the one way valve.. I've rebuilt the bucket / vac cooler after the vac sucked a bit too hard and the whole thing imploded. At least I managed to salvage the beans! The collander is now held in place with metal brackets and bolts. These yemeni beans are hard little suckers that take a lot of heat to roast, so the slow cooling didn't seem to do them any harm. And here's a pic of my temporary roasting setup on the back step. Have to get a roasting table / bench sometime soon...
To-Days roast 200g Harrar + 200g PNG Kone ka estate + 200g Shinzan God Mountain F/C 13.35min then taken to 4.00 min after F/C and cooled before any sound of S/C. Nice even C8 look forward to trying this blend.. Cheers Gra..
So, this is the latest bean green order to arrive. Eth Yirgacheffe Indo Mandheling - blue batak Brazil Daterra estate - sweet collection Eth Sidamo - Mormora Plantation PNG robusta + MM roasted 2 weeks ago + MM roasted 1 day ago I'm roasting about 400 grams of each in AM's loaner HT and looking for blend suggestions Cheers
Quasi roaster at the moment. One day (very soon) a KKTO will grace the deck and I can get stuck in. The HT is a great intro and I'm super thankful that AM loaned it to me while he jet sets around Nam' but I'm looking forward to stepping up on several levels, batch size most importantly

Thats the biggest problem. I cut off the store bought beans and started roasting which means I drinking too fresh at 2 days ( or sometimes same day) but I'm going for it to try and build stock. Not easy with the small batches and other crap going on
Just did a late afternoon roast It's a non scentific mix of Ethiopian Harar 300gr Indian Monsooned Robusta 300gr Cuba Altura 150gr So I will see how it goes Probably a little strong This mix was prompted because of AMs trip to Vietnam and all the talk of Robusta KK

Blend the Ethiopian Yerg and the Indonisian 40% to 60% mix
I love the Deterra and Sidamo so if it were me I'd go 60% Deterra, 30% Sidamo and chuck in 10% Robusta just coz that's what I've been trying lately. 60/40 Daterra/Sidamo should go well as is but I reckon the PNG Robusta will add a little extra oomph...
Tonight's Roast (might extend through till tomorrow night due to sheer quantity) 1.5kg of the following blend: 120g Nicaragua Las Glorias 100g Ethiopian Harrar 60g Colombian Supremo 20g Indian Kaapi Royale Robusta
