After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Em6910 Dead PCB board Maybe??

edited January 1970 in Projects & Rebuilds
Hi everyone, new to your blog site and looking for help for an ageing EM 6910. I was given this recently knowing it had a problem, with the idea of fixing it... HMMMM? Free is always a good start price.
Anyway here is the issue: the last person to use it said it had worked faultlessly for the 3 years of its life until about two days ago, after making a brew it simply stopped steaming and has an intermittent "clicking" that eminates from the PCB (bottom right back). I got it home plugged it in and all the lights do their thing, but yes no steam, plus the steam side appears to get very hot on the body and the "clicking" or tripping sound is very evident.  So far I have removed the back and exposed the organs of the wee beast and freed up the PCB board and have traced the tripping or "clicking" sound to a clear rubber casing that holds a component between the large green board and the smaller rear green board (yes I know i am being very technical ;))
I have, prior to this, backflushed the machine and cleaned the steam and hot water nozzles.  No leakage issue on looking in the back of it.  I also wondered if it was a blockage problem or the solenoid???  So if anyone can enlighten me as to what the problem is and if a new PCB board will fix the problem I will be forever grateful.

  • Hi and welcome to the Crema forum Zeke Our resident Sunbeam specialist should give you an answer soon KK
  • Hi and thanks for your input, much appreciated. Yes the mysteries of electricity, to allay any concerns I only turned it on to check where the clicking was emanating from...hands free!! And have not disconnected the board simply freed it up so I could see or rather hear where the tripping sound was coming from. As to your points; 1) There are three clicking sounds when turned on, not sure if thats the micro switch. When turned on the green light on top flashes for a while and then all the lights come on and stay steady. I have noticed that the red light next to the water level window is CONSTANTLY FLASHING?? 2) No steam at all and the hot water is not working either. Have enclosed a jpeg of an EM 6910, pictures not of mine. but have arrowed the tripping component. Thanks again zeke50
  • Ok, I have the tank in and full and have done so everytime I have turned it on. Red light still keeps flashing, maybe a sensor is cooked. Will keep at it Thanks anyway
  • Right you are. Thanks for your expert opinions
  • Card in place and magnet is seated, thanks again. Oh and yes I have the Bigwarehouse parts company already saved, amazing array of stuff!!  Sunbeam have let me know there is a small repair shop close by that deal in repairing all sunbeam coffee machines, so i will pay them a vist and see if our parts in N.Z are cheaper or dearer than the bigwarehouse. (I'm betting on the later) Regards zeke50
