After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Starbucks used Dyes made from crushed bugs. Mmmmm

    There is nothing really wrong with cochineal other than it not being suitable for vegetarians, and it's natural, so I don't really see the issue other than not labelling it. I went to Hungry Jacks the other day and noticed their Vegetarian burger contains Calf Rennet (but is labelled clearly as so).

    True. I can bet you though that if my daughter's knew about it, they would never buy it. Might be a good way to get them away from the frappacinos etc at Starbucks and Zarrafarras.

    Sheesh. What's the problem. Cochineal comes from mealy bugs, a type of scale insect which would otherwise be a pest of the plants some of the vegans would enjoy eating. the red dye might also be used for the colouring on the labels of Starbucks cups. Disclaimer: No mealy bugs were harmed in the typing of this post
