After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Stage fright

Since my visit to 52 cafes over 52 weeks i've had a break and now have started to video latte art at different cafes. Its really interesting to do this. I've visited a small handfull of cafes already with more to do over the next month or so and have had one cafe say no even though they make nice coffee. No worries with that.

A couple of the baristas have had the shakes. One was really bad, poor fella. Seems once the camera gets turned on, thats it  :o the nervs set in and I suspect a few more baristas will suffer the same fate. Some do the latte art no worries in front of the camera. One cafe said I need to go back to as it wasnt happening for them when I was there.

This is a different angle to view coffee and the barista. It seems more personal.

Of course the vids are done in fullHD  ;D

    It's called pressure. Talk to high grade amateur golfers. I have a mate in my Bible study who wanted to be pro in his younger days but got married, kids, stuff n that...plays off 1 he knows a fella that plays off +3 to + 5........ that means on average he shoots 3 to 5 under every round........... :o I asked, why isn't this guy on the tour......... Reply: when pressure is on, he collapses. They put this guy in the major pennant team (matchplay) and he lost 6 out of 6 matches. Gary Player's (average golfer  :laugh:) son is an incredible golfer. Does corporate and promo days and can do unbelievable things. Never made the tour. By his own admission, the pressure killed him. This is what you will see. Doesn't mean they can't, they maybe can't on the day with all the attention. Rider

    Nerves is a funny thing and can be very debilitating.  There are plenty of techniques used by performers but I always say that nerves are great: they mean that a good performance really matters to you so go on, be nervous and enjoy the feeling of really caring about something! Next is Breathing.  These techniques of deep diaphragmatic intercostal inspiration really work.  So Adelaidecoffee, when you next have the camera on a shakin barista thank them profusely for caring deeply enough to be nervous and then aske them to take a couple of deep breaths.  It might just help you get your footage a little easier!

    I'll take this on board and remember for my future shoots. The cafes are very welcoming of my video'ing and very generous. Some of the vids are customers orders that i'm filming and some are making it especially for me. Thankyou. Its great to give a bit of a platform to try and promote baristas with some latte art skill.

    Oh, and my other half is a professional musician...classical flautist...and qualified barista  ???.... She knows all about the performance situation... B mus Perf... Grad Dip Perf...... It's very real... Harnessing that is the big task ahead of you adelaidecoffee...
