I guess there are a handful of folk who will shell out $800 for a stove top that takes 6 to 10 mins to produce 60ml of brew http://www.smh.com.au/small-business/startup/brewing-up-a-business-idea-20100126-mvc1.html
I'm certainly not one of them.
I wish him luck, He's gonna need it, if I was his $150,000 friend or his Mum I would be feeling decidedly uneasy right now.

I was initially skeptical of the otto when i first saw it but I have to say that it really is a remarkable machine in it's own right. For the real coffee purist who is looking for an amazing 1 or 2 cups in the morning it has real appeal. For someone who is looking at serving multiple coffees in a row the unit is useless. The flavour it produces is really unique, profiling the pressure much like a slayer to deliver and entirely different and very viscous end result. Try before you buy, or judge for that matter, is all I'm saying

I'd like to hear from someone who has actually bought one, they seem pretty thin on the ground, and at $800 I imagine they are destined to stay that way.

The external look is the original classic and the best looking one It must have been difficult as there is over 200 other past designs that are best described in the category of beauty is in the eye of the beholder The insides are a whole different story and that's the part that counts The design changes were driven by his desire for better coffee I for one, give the man encouragement for improving the design KK

I believe the trick to back to back coffee's from the Atomic is to plunge the machine in cold water between brews. Keep the sink half full and away you go. As a starter I got myself a Presso but I'm determined to see one of these on my coffee shelf, one of these days. As coffee bling, you have to admit they have, "the look" I was at Merlo Paddington when one of these caught my eye- they are a bit of a jaw dropper. OG

Yep, they look very special in the Flesh stainless! I know that people develop a ritual and can make these work effectively but to be honest I'd still be buying a Silvia/Lelit for that sort of money. Having said that I never had the stovetop love affair as so many seem to have. Still it's a beautiful bit of kit and I'd love a Cremarian to do a review!

When you look at how strong the market is for clapped out old Atomics at the $4-500 range, I wouldnt be surprised if he makes a go of it. I cant talk, I paid more than that for an original vintage Sorrentina with the green bakelite handles & knob!

I agree, they look spectacular and appear to be an engineering masterpiece, however, my original post was in Jan 2010 and still no post from an owner. The concept of having to plunge the thing into a bucket of water to enable it to be used to make a second cup seems more than a little off putting/strange to me. I can imagine trying to use it on a caravanning holiday with limited room and water supplies, time consuming, slow and awkward are the terms that spring to mind. As I said originally $800 for a one shot wonder, the mind boggles. ???

Oops, not finished... $4,000, $10,000 and it would appear almost no upward limit.... To boil water and push it through some ground coffee beans... I mean, really?? There is no logical sense to ones addiction or is it adoration all things related to "The Bean" In my book the Atomic is "Coffee Art"... I've paid considerably more than this for a small statue and it doesn't look half as sexy as the atomic. Don't boil water either! Nah! Doesn't have to be logical- just lookin good is enough! OG

Ah the romance of it all. I like the concept but its a little pastiche for me. Like a replica Queenslander, something is definitely not right about it. If it were a original design visually he might win my heart. I suspect the hard core will hang out for a atomic and bling slaves wearing skinny jeans will buy the otto :D God I hope some "genius" doesn't remake the FJ Holden :rofl:

PT cruiser is quite possibly one of the worse cars ever made :rofl:. Some say the new mini is a great improvement over the old one, yet it is so far removed from the old mini that its not apples and apples. The otto looks fantastic and going on the reports makes a decent brew too. So I guess if you want a modern atomic, but a mini otto. I would prefer to have a atomic sitting on my shelf doing nothing but looking like the swarve mother fucker it is. ;D

Well I don't own an otto but i do have an atomic and it does make brilliant coffee - viscous, creamy, naturally sweet, and delicious ! And I can see how the otto will have lasting appeal as I've played with one and the build quality is outstanding I've also spoken to folks who've owned both and they've assured me that the otto makes a superior coffee Personally I'd like to own one and just use it as a paper weight in my office so that when guests come around I could say: oh no it's far too precious to actually use! Itd be like owning a vintage Porsche and keeping it garaged! On second thoughts scrap that I'd like to wring the guts out of both mwmhahaha!

You guys, always making it so complicated. The answer is so simple- 'His' and 'Hers'... Two eyes, 2 ears, 2 arms, 2 balls, 2 breasts... Yes, all good things come in two's. So what we need is Two Otto's... Now, whilst I haven't seen it for myself, yet, I believe the owner guy of Otto... When he does live demo's... Well he uses 2 Ottos and using the plunge method... Well he churns out shots as fast as... Aaaah, well just 'fast as'.... The plunge method or just wacking it under the cold tap is straight from from this guy- he encourages and recommends it. Actually Craig is his name and from the couple of emails I've exchanged, he seems alright. OG 2 lungs, double shot, 2 legs 2 armpits, 2 nostrils but only one arsehole- go figure!!
