After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
A few months ago the only place I could find open late in the day was a GJs so I gave it a try. My caffeine depleted state probably was the cause of my failing to check on the cup sizes, which I usually do if it's my first visit, so I ended up with a "regular" that was a large mug. I know I needed some caffeine but this was watery and week despite the double shot they told me later that they'd used.
apparently they both sell coffee... who knew?
Best you use "Coffee" when talking about the beverages they serve as sometimes I am not so sure :stir I had a bit to do with a one of the mentioned franchises last year. That resulted in drinking a reasonable lot of their house blend. Tried it on the local franchise's machine massively rubbish (all shots were measured and timed before being served) and put over 500g through my machine and couldn't get better than urk with a nasty back palette lingering taste. Sometimes it is just the Kawfee is bullshit :pan
Starbucks: I continue to be amazed at the number of customers that frequent the Starbucks on the Gold Coast. The same applies for the stores in Brisbane city, though I walk by those infrequently. There are two stores on the Gold Coast, and both command very good real estate, with the one at Broadbeach having a prime location. No matter what time of the day, there are always people sitting there having a beverage. Possible reasons: Store is well lit, clean and tidy. Staff are friendly and quickly clear tables. Staff are well groomed and clean. Shirts are ironed, male staff are clean shaven. Store is open and trades late, unlike others. Products and prices are well displayed. Service is very quick. I have met with friends and had a beverage on a few occasions, always choosing an iced tea or similar drink. It has been over 12 years since I have tasted a coffee from them. Many like their offerings, and Starbucks understands their customers. If you view it from a business only perspective, it is a very good model. I have to admit it has always been very pleasant to sit with friends and enjoy a non alcoholic drink with them at the Broadbeach store. I wish the coffee was good, but at least they have other alternatives, and cater to all tastes. To the majority, they offer a reasonable beverage which is consistent. They have WiFi, plenty of tables and attract many a traveller. Coffee houses and cafes nearby are usually empty, yet the Starbucks is well patronized. To the tourist it is a welcome beacon. Though not perfect, it leaves many independents and chain stores wanting, and this is clearly evident by many an empty table. Gloria Jeans: They seem to be closing down, or have changed branding. Many that I walk past are empty. Their format is tired, though in some areas with little competition, they seem to flourish.
