After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

These are the beans that John West rejects... (Or: Am I too pedantic?)

This is typically what I pull out of a 220g of Kuda Mas pre roast - damaged beans and other assorted oddments (including a chunk of concrete at one point!).

Apart from the obvious foreign bodies, am I being to pedantic about rejecting these damaged beans?

    I must admit I get the same Kelsey. They can be a skanky whore of a bean I reckon but I just roast em all up and to hell with it. Once its in the hopper I can't see it so I don't care  :rofl:

    I would remove the things of wood and stone but the malformed or broken or insect-damaged beans: no need to get rid of them. No, not vital but certainly don't detract. They are still coffee beans. If you are up for it, separate out about 300 grams of the 'rejects'  and roast 'em up and see if you can tell the difference. I wonder what happens to the 'rejects' of 'triple-picked' batches. I bet they aren't wasted.
