After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.
Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.
Happy Birthday Chris, Congratulations and all the best with your new Baristatorial Adventures!!! And yes I echo the pleas of the Crema Curious and entrust you to keep.us informed of your progress!! Cheers Mate and Happy Cupping!
Well after along wait my L1 finally arrived yesterday which happened to be my birthday. So it made the day pretty special. The packaging for the machine was fantastic, I don't even think Aus post could have damaged it. This machine is everything Reiss said it would be. The workmanship is first class, it's built like a tank, the finish excellent and most importantly it's easy to use and makes great coffee. I had only used the Lelit before and I though I would have to learn a lot to use the L1. But it only took a few shots to get the grind right and I'm very happy with the shots already. The L1 is a lot easier to dial in than the Lelit and the results are far superior. I only pulled 8 or 9 shots so far and am sure I'll fine tune as I go and get even better results. I'm very happy with the communication and the service from Reiss. He has been more than helpful. I purchased some extras from him for the L1 and he chucked in some really nice beans and a spare steam tip as well as giving me free postage. Got to love the LEVER and the LONDINIUM. It's only early days for me but I sure anyone else who purchases this machine will be very happy with it.
So Chris - are we going to see any updates on your progress with the Londinium I?
Well people have asked for videos and pictures but there is enough out on the web already and nothing I could put up would add anything. It's pretty hard for me to compare this machine to anything else as I've only used the Lelit and stovetop before this. I will give a few details of a few observations about the machine. The boiler takes five mins to warm up then with a flush it takes about another 7 mins before it's ready to pull first shot. I have found the shots to be very consistant from the first shot to ones hours after turning on the machine. It's nice not having to flush before shots. The steam is very good and quick. You have to be a little careful with the hot water as it tends to gush out after a few seconds ( burnt myself the first time), but you learn quickly. I found for a relative novice that the machine is very easy to use and you get great flavours out of the shots. My palate isn't good enough to pick up all the different flavours but I think with the coffee I'm roasting and using the L1 the coffee is as good as any I have tasted. I got the tank version as I thought there would be no water source close to where I intended the machine to go. Even though the tank is easy to fill and the pump isn't to loud, I am thinking I might covert it to plumbed as it is now located close to taps. Having complete silence would make the L1 experience even better. Overall this machine gives me great pleasure and I look forward to using it every day.
Thanks Chris, really glad you took the time to reply! Don't let the fact that there are other shots of the Londinium I out there put you off - we LOVE seeing other's coffee stations, every one is unique!

+1 :kudos @Chris Add my thanks to Chris too... Don't worry about how your comments, photos, vids will be perceived Chris... I'm a complete Noob and whilst I've grated a few nerves on here (unintentionally) there's a great crew onboard who don't seem to mind at all! After all, we are ALL learning... I really appreciate the different journeys we are all on... All individual yet somehow all kinda heading in the same direction... As for photos- the desire for these is insatiable! Once you have an eye for something... The desire can never be satisfied... They're all beautiful in their own way!
Good things come to those who wait.... Hopefully my L-I will be shipped on Monday UK time. At least thats the plan according to Riess's blog. :coffee2: It will be shipped in the new shipping configuration and will require a little bit of assembly on arrival, but if it prevents damage to the machine it will be worth it. Time to start getting a little excited I think.... 8)
His blog, his thoughts. As such he has no sponsors that he has to consider before airing his views. Although I think he may be reading that particular post on CS in a different way to the way I read it! The joys of the written word on a forum... ::) Mind you, who says sponsors are above criticism? By virture of their paying for advertising space on a forum, does this make their opinions inviolate? :stir Popcorn anyone? Oranges? Apples? Mandarins???.... back to the coffee I think

He is a member here though and Freshcoffee is Cosmorex. Freshcoffee has no right of reply on a Londinium blog so I guess they can address it here if they want. Good luck with your machine ash. Let us know how you find it.

Precisely, if Freshcoffee wishes to that is. Personally I think Reiss read more into that comment than was warranted. I read it (the original comment) as someone who is exasperated with another topic on CS that was overly melodromatic, and convoluted to say the least. Caveat Emptor etc. etc. Back to the machine, hopefully now that it is shipped partially disassembled, it will prevent some of the damage from shipping being done. What contributors on other forums have said also merits consideration with regards to packaging/shipping. Particularly shipping it halfway around the world. Time to wait and see how mine ends up here.
Ash, I wish you well with your machine and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I do. I haven't been looking at forums lately to much wank for my liking. As such I haven't read about any problems with packaging, mine certainly was 100% when it arrived and I though the packaging was bomb proof. My L1 has been faultless and I have no regrets whatsoever. I also purchased a HG one grinder which is the bees nees. You have had a bit of a wait but I am sure you won't be disappointed. Hope you get a quick passage through customs.
Having read all of FC's comments on this site I'd wonder why anyone would attack such well measured, thoughtful comments devoid of arrogance and bluster. Lets not let that happen in this great thread! Lets not focus on the negativity... More pictures, videos and solutions to problems folks. People will buy this machine or not depending on their needs and budget. Lets be a resource for those people and if a manufacturer chooses to trash a much loved Aussie business then on their head be it! Just not here eh!!
Appreciate that Brett. Unfortunately some people seem to be unable to interpret text on a screen. For the rest of it. Ash and others above have already annunciated well enough my feelings. Post in other forum misinterpreted Add apparent hot head + hijack presumably copywrite (both author and site owner) post to a safe haven and have a go from there. Attempt to embarrass original post author, and twist all for own commercial advantage, do it from a place where the original post author is unable to reply (as far as I know...and why would you bother). Way to go, this is a brand new era in product marketing. Ask for a clarification in the place of original apparent "offence"? No. Is the other party known to me? No. Have we ever corresponded or spoken about anything so that he knows what my opinions and thoughts are? No. Had I been asked, I wouldnt have given permission for something I wrote to be hijacked to another place for purposes public embarrasment. Would anyone? Does londinium have the guts to remove that personal blogg entry from its website?
You have my sympathies FC! I have no knowledge of what happens on any other forum or personal blog, my only interest is this site! Anyone who reads any of your posts on Crema will be left in no doubt as to your integrity and acumen. Now folks, back to the machine!

My comments above were not referring to this forum. A lot of stuff I was reading on other forums was just rubbish. I hope nobody on this site took offence from my comments.
I too have been quietly following the Londinium journey since the beginning, but now it has just plunged into the "valley of death" for me personally where unprofessional behavior leaves a disappointing perception that cannot be undone. We could go on about ethics, sensationalism, context. contradiction, ego, blinded misdirected fury, etc. but for me now, on principle, I will be ignoring anything to do with the Londinium topic and their bookmark has been removed from my browser. I can only hope the person comes to their senses and can take a moment to reflect and realize what they have done and "put it right".
Wow !.. seems to me some folks are slightly over reacting and making a bit of a "storm in a coffee cup" ! This is not "Hansard" or the letters column in the Times, .. these are chat forums and Blogs full of every ones rambling comments. If you start to take them seriously or let it get to you personally, you better step away from the keyboard for a while, and get your head back in the real world ! :o

Unless you're trying to kick something off mate this is not a helpful comment. Talk about the machine or start a new thread. Thanks!
:o What is up with you guys !! You all need to Lighten up.. the m/c seems fine , but for some reason it seems to generate a lot of aggro in the forums !
Londinium's factory-direct-to-customer selling model bypasses the traditional wholesaler-to-retailer model. As such, Londinium has the potential to rock a few "establishment" boats. That is just a general remark directed at no-one in particular. Add to this Londinium's feisty, muscling-in marketing style and its new boy-on-the-block appeal, and you have the reason for the "aggro". Quite understandable. Both selling models have their pros and cons, but one thing is certain, the marketplace will decide if there is room for Londinium.

It will be interesting how they cope with warranty and service issues as these are being sold internationally without local distribution and service networks. Leaving aside any legal obligations w.r.t. warranty (which are presumably dealt with under English/European law), how failures are handled will be a major factor in how the product is perceived. Plenty of products are being sold direct these days and this sales model has different challenges based on product characteristics and sales volume. As someone with a background in service delivery, this area fascinates me more than the actual product.
Well my machine has left the factory. Knowing my luck it'll more than likely turn just as I have to go overseas for work for a short period. I suppose I've waited this long a little longer won't hurt me!

Fingers crossed it arrives in time :thumb: and unharmed for a first coffee before you head overseas KK

Ash, I'm sure there would be plenty of people here who would happily take delivery of your machine and look after it  till you get back from o/s :thumb:
Well it arrived in Brisbeane yesterday morning. Now just waiting on Customs to do some fairly simple maths and advise DHL how I have to pay for duty, gst etc. Looks like sometime from Tuesday to Thursday it will actually arrive in location.
